Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This round of layoffs should make each one consider their future.

Although I was not affected, as I look at those in my peer group who were laid off, they all are talented, very hard workers and stressed. The layoffs were NOT solely directed at underperformers.

Prayers to the ones who lost their jobs. I wish you the best.

Just out of curiosity ... why is this round of layoffs any more worthy of reflection or reconsidering working at T than any previous (or future) layoffs?

T has consistently and enthusiastically used layoffs as a way to cover for management blunders. Does anyone truly believe that these layoffs are caused by anything other than the bumbling mismanagement and atrocious decisions by Stink and his crew? In fact, the macroeconomic environment was never a factor in T layoffs before, and it isn't now. This isn't about a company forced to adjust to situations outside its control. This is a company shedding employees because of self-inflicted damage caused by arrogance and incompetence.

This company (like all public companies) is a business that is owned by the peope who own the AT&T Stock. The board hires the Managers at the top and they in turn hire US.

There is a single purpose for this company and all other for-profit companies. It's to make money.

The Managers are beholden to the Board who are beholden to the major stock owners.

This company cares nothing about nobody - and they'll do whatever they must to make their buck. Your friends at work might care about you and a few of your supervisors may as well. Yes, your quarterly layoff shows you this - great, good, and poor performers let go to achieve cost savings.

As much as you may not want to realize it - we trade our time for money here. We earn a living on a quarterly basis. When the economy is better and the company is making money for its investor/owners - we don't notice the quarterly cycles as much.

Cold hard truth in a nutshell. We're all just a number. The social contract is gone - https://www.chieflearningofficer.com/2017/05/08/employer-employee-social-contract-2/

Very hard to stay focused and positive in the day to day work knowing that in a few weeks you may simply be dismissed. Like the boardwalk game with the ducks going around in a circle, who will get hit next. This is a toxic unhealthy environment.
