Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Used to like my job

I remember that I was delighted when I got the opportunity to work here with some of the great people who worked here back then. Today, I no longer enjoy doing my job here at all, but the bills have to be paid. I think that hardly anyone still enjoys their job at Ford?

I'm always hoping you'll elaborate a little more but you haven't yet.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion - and I'm not looking to judge you for yours (I don't really no what it is anyway) but...

Will you explain what you mean? In a way that doesn't get this conversation flagged by the mods : )

I was the guy that asked the DEI question.

Interesting responses. I would have thought it was the exact opposite.

I figured that minorities would have enjoyed the DEI touchpoints, or at least have been appreciative that Ford was trying. And that the straight white dudes, like me, would have been the ones annoyed with DEI.

But from some of these responses here it sounds like it's actually the straight why guys that like DEI while the minorities don't like it. I would not have guesses that.

Thanks for engaging in the conversation everyone. I like when this forum can serve as an open space where no topics are off limits.

However you believe man came to be on this earth, I think we can all agree, both genders and all races have been here about the same amount of time, can't get more equal opportunity than that.

It bothers me that we are required to discuss non with related social issues at work. Yes. DEI is a waste of time and just a way for Bill to try overcome the guilt of his white privilege.

FTR, most white straight dudes had no problem with DEI for the same reasons as Bill. It was immigrants and minorities that felt they were superficial and a stupid waste of time.

I won't tell you my demographics because it's irrelevant.

Sincere question, does the DEI thing bother a lot of people?

I'm always a little surprised to see strong negative reactions to the DEI stuff. It doesn't really bother me. When it first started I tried to join a DEI webex session once a quarter for a while. Sometimes it works with my schedule sometimes it doesn't. Now I'll join if it's something interesting and if I can make the time. But I've never felt forced... for reference, I'm a straight white dude.

The "not mandatory but mandatory" DEI discussions greatly diminished my job satisfaction. I go to work to get $h-- done, not discuss our feelings and social issues.

Why anyone thought that was okay is beyond me. The man hours wasted in those meetings would take an chunk out of CarCars 25% inefficiency claim.

SIRP'ed in August before the pension started ramping up, but I can relate to the OP. Ford became a source for a paycheck the last few years, rather than the company many of us were proud to work and sacrifice for. It's sad and disturbing to see what is happening.

@OP. Same story here. Thought I'd make a difference at Ford, and I was very eager to make it right. Then management happened. Bills to pay keep me still here, but I am looking. Not waiting to get canned. Already went to a couple of interviews, next one is this week. The best part? Ford fired my possible successor last year.

I'll give another perspective of Model e...

I currently work on Model e in a strategy role. I genuinely enjoy the work. I think it's 'fun' to propose and develop what's 'next' regarding our vehicles and services.

But... I have never felt LESS job security in a role or on a team. Especially since last August.

I wouldn't advise against Model e, necessarily. But I'd be cautious of what role you go to. Try to understand how 'necessary' the role is and how easily it could be eliminated or off-shored or the team could be downsized.

I recommend moving to Model e. Much improved leadership and morale than the other areas of the company. I am happy at my job as are my coworkers.
