Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I don't get the RTO hate

Some of you are acting like you've been working from home your entire lives. You haven't though. Working from office was your default for years or decades and now suddenly you can't even imagine doing it again? Why? Why didn't you complain about it before the pandemic if it was that bad? We have so many problems at Verizon, but RTO is not one of them.

I wish the company would take it as a resignation if someone continues to work from home. All home based jobs could be replaced by someone in India if people don’t RTO.

People s--t outdoors in a shed until a hundred years ago. Who cares what the norm was in the past. WFH is much better.

Wtf are you talking about? Working from home has been a growing thing for years even VZ started it prior to covid. It's always been a great idea and has been complained about but not loud enough. It's the old a-s folks that can't connect a printer stuck in their old a-s ways with no idea how to make it work. Tell me how a telecommunications company wasn't the leader of remote working? Lol. Covid helped push up I further the number but like 5-10 years forward. It's taken covid and our young generation to help push it too...

@2ngx+1lig1Vkp Read much? I love working from home. No distractions. My productivity is awesome. Leaving the call center was the best thing ever.

I will not miss the stench of smelly underarms from a certain demographic. Why doesn't anyone ever tell them to wear anti-perspirant?? It's atrocious!

“ We sure do have to pay more for electric, water, and heat.”

Water? How much are you drinking and using the bathroom extra at home that you are paying a significant amount to even notice for water.
Heat? I havent adjust my heat what more are you paying can’t you just wear a sweater or whatever you want at home?
Electricity? Don’t you get a stipend for fully working from home for “internet” that you already have to have that you could use for the few dollars of laptop juice?
All of your added expenses for utilities barely acratch a says commute worth of gad unless someone is incredibly wasteful but then you have a months cost of gas and wesr and twar on a vehicle or bus/train passes to offset it right?

@3dew+1lig1Vkp What raise? Nobody in the call center received a raise when we were all sent home. We sure do have to pay more for electric, water, and heat.
Did we get a raise due to inflation? No. Instead added more and more work on our plates. Nobody at Verizon should make over 100,000/yr people should be fired/laid off based on their performace.

At least at home I can use translation software to understand the apes. I like that option just in case hey ever say anything worth hearing.

Nothing is more myopic than saying employees are whining about unnecessary expenses incurred. Maybe Verizon should take heed and make better business decisions.

We all know the real reason why employees are whining about returning to the office... money. They have enjoyed the "raise" the company gave them. No commuting expenses, no after school care, no office clothing expenses, etc.. I get not wanting to give up this "raise" but most employees were hired for an office position but the gig is up.

First of all working at a call center was obnoxious. Loud people popping they gum. Yelling across the room “Hey girl” “Hey Boo” eating full meals at desks. Disgusting bathrooms, people not washing their hands after using the bathroom, stuff being stolen off peoples desks. People walking around coughing and sneezing. Inappropriate clothing being word and people with bad hygiene walking around stinking up the place.
I work from home. No kids, no pets, no chickens in the background or T.V. NO DISTRACTIONS.
We are paid to work from home, not to be taking care of pets, children or to be watching T.V.
What Verizon needs to do is have random home visits once a month so they can ensure people have a dedicated office. If they do not then they should lose their job. I am against working in a call center. Anyone that wants to go work in a center, go ahead look for that job.

There are a few jobs that can legitimately be done properly (emphasis on properly) from home or without a home base for supervision, but far more that can’t or aren’t being done properly, mainly those that require being on the phone all day. I’m sick of hearing dogs barking, babies crying, TVs and video games, microwaves, and even a toilet flushing in the background when I have to call in to core or care (99% of the time for our joke systems but that is another story). Not to mention constantly getting hung up on now even by US based reps under the guise of a lost internet connection or power because you lazy pr!cks can’t or are unwilling to fix a problem I can literally instruct you on how to fix, and could fix myself prior to all of the POS changes, god I miss netace.

You all don’t need to go back for “collaboration” or “team building” or whatever bs buzzword Verizon is throwing at you to get you back in to the office, the reason is accountability, Verizon just doesn’t have the plums to say it, too afraid to offend you little pa----s I’m sure. To the few of you in these positions that are working from home and doing a good job, thank you and I don’t mean to lump you in with the rest, but this has been a worsening problem for the last couple years and it is having an impact on productivity.

YOU work from home because you ARE lazy. I have seen it first hand affect productivity. Who cares what anyone thinks is environmentally unfriendly or not. The whole green premise is based on total BS trickled down by the leftist brainwashers when the real angle is more regulation federal and more control via legislation. Nost common sense people can see the BS. I knew it was BS from the time I learned of these so called scientists being challenged by an equal amount of scientists about the existence of human caused global warming. The fact they censor the ones with dissenting challenging views tells me all I need to know about the BS. Yet you have mo--ns even at exec level thinking they are being sanctimonious pushing the lie. Anything to try and feel good about your narcissist self right? It's best people work in the office for certain positions because people are slacking too much. Plus what is up with all these childish cartoonish like programs such as gmail, blue jean, or slack. It's like some immature 12 year old picked them out. The Microsoft and Skype worked out so much better and they don't care about the colorful fluff that has no functionality.

I'm in Basking Ridge and Tuesday is really the only day that the building has ppl in it. I've gone in for last 8 months 6x a month and that is my obvs.
I was there today, lots of ppl around, and lots of ppl I know (21 years w/VZW) and the environment is okay but lots of time wasters and meaningless meetings
I can do meaningless meetings at home...plus if all of your teammates are in different locations (as with me) the only reason to go in is to watch your pizza being made in the BR pizza oven

What does commute have to productivity? Hmm let’s see. When I’m at home I’m working 6:45am till 5pm. When I’m going to the office it’s 8am-4pm. Their loss not mine.

It’s funny, a lot of the remote positions are being outsourced and not backfilled. They are bringing in outsourcing companies and making you scones are them. Makes it easier to keep everyone separate and not seeing people disappear. Also it’s a form of union busting.

I hated working in the office from the first day but it was an impossible problem I saw no way to change. The pandemic changed that. People have been default working from home for 3 years now. You can't put the toothpaste back into the tube. People have 3 years experience with how much better it is for their life.

The fact is going into the office prices to be meaningless when most of us work with India and are based in different locations across the US. Why go to the office when u sit on blue jeans all day with people all over the globe??

Post ID: @yav+1lig1Vkp

What does the commute have to do with work productivity? I don't add to or subtract from my 8hrs based on whether or not I have to commute.

I go in to get unscheduled facetime with the execs, especially with those I see on meetings but don't personally know. They are your best option for getting director interviews for jobs that didn't even post yet.

Office, no Office. All the same. For years I worked mostly overnight changes that did not require my presence. If I needed to go in, I went in. Nothing changed during the pandemic. I went in if I needed to get hands on.

It’s antiquated, that’s why. Very few jobs need f2f interaction. It’s costly for real estate, unproductive for wasteful commutes and completely environmentally unfriendly.
