Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

If they remove Work From Home

Senior Management can't manage. They want butts in the seats. I don't even know where to report to at this point. I was in Atlanta but moved to the Florida Coast over 2 years ago. I felt like Andy Dufrane slithering out of that sewage pipe into the spill creek.

“There are plenty of ATT buildings in Florida. Find the closest one and update your address in the system. It’s not rocket science”

Incorrect advice to OP. Employees don’t have access/authorization to simply “change their work location in the system”. That can only be done by the employee’s manager, and then must be approved by next level above that manager.

in my org, they told us to come in 2x a week. I am ok with that. The office I report to in in ATL is nice. If they go tell me I need to come in 5x a week, that's their right, I have the choice to leave. Won't be mad about it.

“At&t does not own you. It's still a free country, you are free to move about the country. Get real, the day I depend on a 4th level to sanction my home address is the day I resign.”

They may not tell you were to live, but they can tell you where to report to work on Monday morning. A daily commute for an employee from the Florida coast to atlanta every day is a haul….

"Essentially it’s a bunch of crotchety old boomers that want everything to be like the good old days and refuse to accept anything new.".... crotchety old boomers, why you young whippersnapper. How'd you like one across yo' lips?

There is nothing like "The good old days" left anymore. What remains is that I will get to retire on my own terms and I will probably never meet you because T will slice you out of the company. I wasn't always this way, and I am not proud of what AT&T has become. It is not the fault of the employees that have more tenure than you, but keep hating them because that is what the company wants you to do. Ignore the numerous missteps of leadership.

upper management if you are reading this. find something and fire the wfh people.

WHAAA! (wipes crying eyes). I don't have it so you shouldn't either. Right? Guess what. When AT&T decides to be rid of you, YOU GONE. Sorry Gen Z'er.

They want to adjust your pay zone and pay correct state taxes. And harder to work your second job if you are in the office.

Hope you had 4th level approval to move. You can’t just move - that’s not at all how it works.

“ I don't even know where to report to at this point.”. You will report to your designated location in webphone.

The reasons they want you in the office is because it makes harder for them to micromanage every little thing you do. They only micromanage because they have no idea how it actually manage people or treat their employees halfway decent.

Essentially it’s a bunch of crotchety old boomers that want everything to be like the good old days and refuse to accept anything new.

Well I am guessing you moved during Covid and the company is within its rights to tell you to report to your office in Atlanta.

Good luck!
