Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

No learning culture

I have colleagues who will always say that Cisco has a strong emphasis on encouraging employees to continuously seek and apply new skills, but I no longer consider this a learning culture. You?
Unfortunately, I feel that I'm wasting my time here and that I could upgrade my skillset much more working for other companies.

Not sure when this person was born or defending the post but I am fairly certain that this person was being sarcastic. So maybe you might look in the mirror.

I disagree. After a 20 plus year career with Cisco, I’ve learned a lot the last few years about diversity, equity and inclusion bs..

seriously, we have whole orgs with execs on this cr-p. mandatory training.
Think of the thousands of wasted work hours.
I’m sure that skill set is in high demand. Must add to CV

See? This long timer is very typical of Cisco. There are hundreds of people (what I call them "frogs") who is like him.

Remember. The below is for those frogs staying at the Cisco offices worldwide for 10+, 20+ years or more.
"The frog in the well knows nothing of the great ocean."

This guy is proudly saying that he's learned a lot the last few years about diversity, equity and inclusion. OMG! Seriously? Was he just born yesterday? Everyone in the world knows that these days. Is that what he has learned at Cisco? This kid is just hopelessly miserable.

There is absolutely nothing that you can possibly put in your CV about Cisco. What could you possibly appeal to interviewers at other companies? How so many years you stayed at Cisco, there is nothing you can proudly say at any job interview because what you are doing at Cisco is something that any student or temp staff can do.

That anyone needs remedial training to learn to deal with people slightly different from themselves is pathetic and that so many are still so resistant to it suggests they really haven’t learned anything.

Think of the thousands of wasted work hours.

As a customer I’m thinking of the thousands of bugs they didn’t have time to write. Hiring so many clueless people that they had time to write four broken operating systems, each with far too many branches, to do the same thing was a colossal mistake. Cisco needed to make far deeper cuts decades ago when they might have been able to attract talent to right the ship.

I’m sure that skill set is in high demand. Must add to CV

The big question is do you put it above or below the line where you say you spent 20 years checking in one line bug fixes that often didn’t fix anything and sometimes broke the builds? I treat a resume from a software Technical Leader or above from Cisco the same as a resume from a VP of Doughnuts at Drinkin Donuts or a VP of Fries at McDoninds. 20 years plus with lower titles are treated less kindly.

Subscribe to O'Reilly books and Udemy/Skillshare that the company will pay for if you ask. CiscoLive recordings are also good. "Internal" training is a bunch of salesy BS that makes me drop to sleep after 5 minutes. Hand on heart is there anyone who watches that internal stuff?
