4 Day Work Week?

Since we are so innovative and out-of-the-box in our thinking as shown by the move to “neighborhoods” to foster collaboration, do you think we will move to a 4-day work-week to improve productivity?

A four day work week would mean I would have to work twice as much. No thanks.

We should adopt one of the best practices from the medical field where the typical nurse working in a Houston Hospital works 12 hrs. a day for 3 days but receive 40 hours of pay!

Imagine your quality of life if you have 4 days off per week.

Okay, now I'm putting down my crack pipe and getting back to work!

The great irony is that Standard Oil was one of the pioneers over 8 hour/ 5 day work schedules, which was a bold, controversial move at the time. I believe that was 1923. Think of how much more productive workers are now, and yet we work the same hours…

Don’t worry, you’re going to get a 0 day workweek in a few months. I amazed that you are the ones who begged, yes begged us to hire you, now all you do is complain…and yet you still won’t quit. Admit it, other companies don’t think you’re the hotshot that you think you are.

EM will not even consider 9/80 so 4 x 10 hour work days is beyond comprehension except at some field locations.

We’ll go chap 13 first, just on principle.

Sure, they will give us 4 day work weeks; the only catch will be managements expectation that each workday will be 14 hours longggggg.

“4 Day Work Week?”

Not with the boomer bosses you have running EM. They’re big on having “butts in seats” and other empty platitudes that lament for some lost sense of manhood, or whatever.

No 4-day week, no flexibility, no WFH. You will come to the office everyday to send emails and do Zoom calls so that EM can get their tax deductions and your boomer boss who’s invested in commercial real estate can pad his portfolio. If you don’t like it, you can either unionize or learn to code.

What?? A bonus structure for ALL employees plus 9/80s???? We would be…competitive. Ludicrous thinking. Stone ages folks that’s where we are at with a detrimental refusal to adapt.

EM would adopt that once the week is redefined as 5 days long

Mobil Corporation had 9/80 work weeks. You worked 9 hours per day and you could take every other Friday off (or whatever day you wanted with your manager's approval). That worked out to be an extra 26 days of vacation for a new hire.

When Exxon acquired Mobil in 1999, the 9/80 workweek disappeared the next day. Our CEO, LR, said that Exxon employees were already working 10 hours per day. Why should he pay employees to take off every other Friday?

That would be giving employees something they would want, so of course that would never happen.

We are way more likely to move to five tens than we are to a four day work week.
