Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I was an experienced hire for 8 months. Culture is worst than you think…

1 my manager were just worried about next promotion
2 work hrs are insane. Starting to receive txt at 2am from the field ( never was mention on my interview)
3 you will never been seen as a true Exxon employee. Those are just the ones that started after school.
4 employees with hire level than you will treat you like S***
5 they think pension will buy your soul an will make you stay and suck it up
6 told my boss I was going to take 10 days vacation he was not happy! If family is important to you this is not a place to be

If you are supporting operations why were you surprised by 2 am phone calls? You expect Ops to wait six hours until you drag into the office?

It is very possible English is not the first language of OP. Kudos to all the smart a-s EM smug people making fun of the grammar. You are the exact reason EM is ranked so low on the Forbes places to work list.

Caution! Grammar police must be one of those managers that slams people on it in their PDS and fired them. Power hungry people

Grammar is your friend…..well not your friend…..but it should be.

While I think the culture here is absolutely broken, after reading what you wrote, I’m not sure the culture is why you had the experience you had here…

Classic Exxon reply...

I can't wait to leave this company and it's garbage culture.

Point #1 is in my opinion the biggest cultural problem here. I’ve heard so many stories about late-career senior managers who are done climbing that “finally” start to speak up and do right by their employees. Unfortunately it took a whole career of saying nothing and following the company line before they felt they were able to say something.

I was an experienced EM Upstream hire at 50 years old. 15 years later I retired at age 65.
My super asked me to stay other year, but my wife vetoed that, ha!
I’ll never need to work again for money. Lucky me. Thanks EM!

How did we ever “higher” you? I can’t make out if you are still “hear” or not. Hopefully the “ladder”.
