But check how long it's now taking to land a new job like yours today, and you may decide to drink the kool-aid if it's forced into your hands soon.

Hey software developer. If you're that much in demand, why haven't you already left to go WFH elsewhere, because ATT isn't really ever the high bidder on work like that. You're costing yourself to stay at T. The kool-aid cup may be pushed into your hands soon. Drink then, or leave. Thats the only 2 choices for any of us WFH now at this company.
Hey a.s.s.h.0.I.3, people who are wfh usually very marketable and they have no problem getting another job. I am a software developer and i can get a job anywhere., if i want to, which is the plan if they make me pay more gas and spend 2hrs in traffic.

Nope! But if they are forcing me to come into an open floor space where I gotta spend 10 minutes looking for a spare chair, haul in a keyboard, hand soap, tp, and desk supplies every single time, no walls so everyone’s looking right at my face, and I gotta listen to 5 conference calls from 5 different depts going on at once, they get what they get! I betcha the PHd lab folks don’t sit in an open floor space listening to Sales PMs loud talking all day. But maybe they do; if so we’re in more trouble than I thought.

AT&T has not developed a unique technology since Bell Labs was in place. I seriously doubt your Coffee break and chill azz is of the caliber of the Bell Labs technicians. Go away, go collaborate and complain until you get tapped on the shoulder to leave the company.

Our Org had to go into the building the other week for a meeting. I could not get anything done as people kept stopping by my door and wanted to shoot the breeze, asking if I wanted to go to coffee, to lunch, take a walk or just gossip. I kept having to say I would love to but I am really busy, thanks. Folks just do not get it and I do not want to be rude but my job requires concentration and I generally work 9 and sometimes 10 hours a day. I must have lost two hours just in small talk and trying to be nice and avoid people. I am so much more productive at home and none of the folks i work with are at my location. Makes no sense to me but I will do what is asked.
After Working from home all this time, as soon as you return to the office, you are inundated with useless task as "shoot the breeze" "get some coffee" "take a walk or gossip" That tells me that those in the "Collaboration" zones need a little bit more to do. I guess that is what Cory Anothey was talking about.

You see, the woke corporations are as hypocritical as the politicians that push the whole green deal agenda! Corporate America knows that commuting to/from work every day requires gasoline for transportation and will leave a carbon foot print, but they don't care about it one iota! They only care about "Control!" Like the politicians wanting to control your everyday lives at some point, so does corporate America! WFH allows employees to have the best of both worlds and corporate America hates that! They hate it because they have no control over the people they employ, yet, the employees are doing exactly what they're being paid for and in most cases more! Yes, it's difficult to fathom the stup1d1ty of some employers, but never underestimate upper management!
I just don’t get the obsession with sending folks back to the office. Cut the office space and save a ton of money. Not to mention wfh is better for the environment with less people driving, less pollution, less traffic. Definitely old logic that we must all be in an office desk. As long as I’m meeting my objectives or exceeding them, then you shouldn’t care what I do and where I’m doing it.
Why do people not want to go back to work. If not, get fired. Case closed.
New weekly initial unemployment claims still are coming in at 50 year lows. That indicates a robust job market. May not hold forever, but good for now. While Fed chairman Powell is trying to come off as a "hawk", I'm thinking chickenhawk.
There is just too much debt, and our society can't afford the high interest rates necessary to arrest inflation because of the costs of servicing debt. Of course, if that winds up being true, inflation is going to carry on.

Most employees do not turn on webcam when conferencing/collaborating. It inhibits team work when not paying attention and thinking you can multitask.
I don't turn on my webcam because I am worried I might subconsciously pick my nose.
The reality check is the job market operates a lot like the stock market. What comes down will eventually go back up. Just compare 2009 to 2019.
I hate to break it to the doomists, but unless there's a nuclear war, software jobs are not going anywhere for a very long time. Yes, even with AI models. Learn to embrace new technologies and adapt them to your workflow.

Changing jobs to another company and getting remote work, you are almost guaranteed to have to use the webcam. So suck it up or else you’ll have to get dressed for webcam, quit your side hustle or second job that so many have been doing. Enjoy the AT&T Stone Age.
AT&T is lame when it comes to collaboration tools and promoting better habits and guidelines for use. Internal training is ignored and no mid level management supports it through their actions of doing meeting videos.
The AT&T Connect software they abandoned was getting decent. Had they through a little deeper, they could have made AT&T Connect - Open Source software and improved it immensely showing leadership.
In other news, water is wet; a cloudy sky is gray, and a dog will sniff its own bu-t. So much hatred for people who can effectively do a job from home. Sour grapes!
Dang OP so much anger over people who were smart enough to apply for jobs that allow WFH. Guessing you were not selected for one of those positions.
Being 100% remote work means they will outsource your job to the Phillippines by the end of the decade.
