Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Legg Town Hall

It was said today that WFH is ending, did he say when? I had to leave as he started discussing it.

I hope the new India colleagues plan to work a full day (US hours). Most vendors I have worked with from India are avail until 11:30am EST. It gets very tricky trying to even schedule a meeting when some business partners are on the West Coast, others are on the East Coast and Off Shore-workforce is avail for four hours in the am only and forget about when you have an issue and trying to get ahold of someone.

RTO for everyone or those that were FTW before Covid?
My group was FOW before Covid.

Yes, go back to the office and call the new hires in India.
Because this is AT&T, that makes perfect sense.

Probably driven by Stankey. Not understanding what we do.

Of course it's driven by Stankey. Legg is Stankey Bot 2.0.

I wish he would form his own opinion instead of monkey see, monkey do. I know the guy isn't stupid.

Look at the metrics. Is remote work impacting performance, or is work still getting done? I know my team is pushing out things left and right. In fact, I would argue the past two years have been some of our top performing years.

Having people occupy desks in an office just presents a false sense of security based on the flawed idea that someone will choose to do something if they see someone performing poorly. In reality, nobody cares. You think I haven't seen people fall asleep at their desk, talk all day on the phone with their buddies, or watch YouTube videos? It happens all the time. And unless they are bothering me by being loud, I just ignore them.

The people who sleep at their desk will sleep at home during work hours.

It's not a location problem, it's a people problem. Again, look at the work being done. Are they getting their stuff out on time? Great.

"tracking attendance " are we in school? My work is done no matter where I am sitting. These people are completely out of touch with reality. Way to demotivate your workforce. They love to have us live in constant fear.

Probably driven by Stankey. Not understanding what we do.

They are going through exercise of looking at employee location. Whether you are complete work from home status or part time, they are going to require you to go in if you are relatively close to some cities with AT&T office presence. Even if CRE has sold most facilities, they say go in.

So we go in to get our paycheck. In meantime we lose around 2-3 hours per day commuting, employees will adjust because we need that paycheck. This is called productivity and collaboration, even if most of my team is across the country, I am in Chicago area. At least this time they are not firing people based on Geo zone nonsense during Donovan/McElfresh regimes. Or may be they hope some quit which I am sure will happen to a degree.

So sick of “Return to Work” as if we’ve been on vacation for the past 2 years. Hello? How do they dare get on stage and brag about what a great job we did in 2022, couldn’t have done it without you, blah blah blah. And then turn around and say ‘ok it’s time we got back to work’. Huh? And take attendance? I cannot remember what year I took my last sick day but it was over 5 years ago, I have perfect attendance. Oh, you mean Monitor and Track us, not take attendance. Ohhhh

It’s also very clear they want more insourcing but in Israel and India. We are a so called telecommunications company and our vendors do the development yet they want us to go in 3-4 per week when everyone is spread across the country. This isn’t a Google or Apple. Stankey and Randy gutted the talent and shifted the work to fixed bid vendors and put us down the path of bankruptcy. Well done !

He said the policy is still taking shape, within 60-90 days they should have it pretty well finalized. My impression is to be prepared to go back 3-4 days per week likely very soon after that announcement.
He was clear they will be tracking attendance at that point.
