Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM - Free Report) recently reported in its 10-K filing that its global workforce decreased by 1,000 to 62,000 personnel in 2022. This was due to cost-cutting measures intended to increase shareholder returns. It was Exxon's third consecutive year of staff reduction, down from 75,000.

The company also forewarned of potential risks for its operations in Kazakhstan, a nation in central Asia that borders Russia by 7,644 kilometers (4,750 miles). ExxonMobil’s combined oil and gas output in Kazakhstan was 246,000 barrels last year, which were exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). According to the filing, Exxon may face an undeterminable loss in cash flow from its businesses in Kazakhstan if Russia interferes with the pipeline's functioning.

The U.S. oil giant, ExxonMobil, holds a 25% stake in the Tengizchevroil (TCO) oil production joint venture that manages the Tengiz and Korolev oil fields in Kazakhstan. The company also holds a 16.8% working interest in the Kashagan field. Per the filing, ExxonMobil's assets in Kazakhstan generated after-tax earnings of nearly $2.5 billion in 2022.

In the US, it doesn’t matter if you get your degree at the University of Upper Slacktovia. All that matters is that the engineering degree program in question is ABET-accredited, which pretty much all such programs are, at least in the state schools.

South Asian students appear to have realized this some time ago, as they’ve packed US university engineering graduate programs for most of the past two decades. Clearly they’re onto something.

I spend at least 20% of my time fixing obvious mistakes made by engineers in India (over-defined FEA meshes, improper material selection/boundary conditions, misuse of dimensionless groupings, etc.). Many can’t implement basic unit conversions, and those can be Googled.

“The well educated BTC employees”
Just so you know: any good quality graduate from India goes abroad (mainly to the US) to get an advanced degree and then work anywhere in the world for western-level salaries. Those who stay in India and work for a tenth of US salaries are those who didn’t make it. Still, even to get the best graduates that stay in India is not as cheap as our du-mb management imagines. Essentially we get the third tier of Indian graduates to work for BTC. Of course, our own American new hires are now third rate as well, so it is a race to the bottom.

Remember the numbers quoted for BTC growth does not count the MSP work force which is at least 2x the BTC count.
Virtually all BTC new hires are promised expat roles which many are on today, many more are coming once the backlog of visas are cleared.

In the US and Europe the headcount reduction was a lot higher than 1000. I'd say maybe 5000. But, hiring in India is off the charts so, globally yes, there are 1000 fewer employees. Have you been to the EMHC in the last month or so? There is absolutely nobody there. Have you been to Annandale? It is fu----g empty. People don't go to work there on Mondays or Fridays. They WFH. Some guys show up during the workweek but most don't even bother. Have you been ot BR, Beaumont, Baytown? All ghost towns compared to three years ago. I'd never ever seen anything like this in my 25 years with the company. This company has been completely demolished by Woods. Totally destroyed.

Funny that the well educated BSC employees are running circles around the engineers educated at third tier US schools….. At 20% pf the cost 😂😂

Global projects alone shifted 15% of their jobs to India last year.

It’s not a place to have a career….

Apparently “equity research” entails copying & pasting Reuters briefs.

I don’t know what Zacks consultants are charging for this service, but there’s an infinite number of college students who could do the same thing for a much lower cost.

We had a net decrease of 1000 employees.

We increased headcount significantly in India and other low cost countries which resulted in greater than one thousand headcount reductions in Houston and Brussels.
