Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

This is Wells Fargo in a nutshell

Strangest company I've worked for. I didn't speak to my manager for the first two weeks on the job. I tried reaching out several times but he seemed to have no interest in communicating with me. I wasn't even sure what software I needed or how to order it, but I am not new to the field so I figured it out and painfully got myself set up. Eventually I had some communication with him and even got a project assignment. Things really didn't get much better beyond that. He was never able to answer my questions so eventually I stopped asking and tried to get my one-on-ones as brief as possible so as to minimize wasting my time. I figured out how to do the job by reading documentation and asking others and making things up as I went along. I'm turning in my notice next week.

This was too good to stay buried among replies. OP is @qqj+1lgeRwK6.

You must be in tech control! Just a guess based on what you said!

Ahh, too funny. This was my comment originally under another post. It's been abysmal but my last day is coming up soon. I'm waiting to see if my manager will speak to me again since giving notice. I'm guessing not. If he had just made a little effort to speak to me in those first few weeks and discuss expectations, give me a basic lay of the land, I would be much less bitter. I much prefer a hands-off manager but I can't respect a completely useless one. And the icing on the cake was finding out this week he took credit for my project (big kudos, pat on the back for him) for something he had NOTHING to do with. Whatever. He and the rest of management can suck it. I'm just counting down my days.

My manager is great, but sign me up for that treatment.

I received a change in manager over a year ago. My old manager did my 6 month review and said my new manager was invited but had no desire to attend. In this year, we have never had a team meeting. I've never had a 1:1. We do an inspection call monthly that last a few minutes and we usually end up talking about children. As far as I'm concerned, I have no manager and am glad of it...better than a micro-manager who doesn't know your job. I have nothing against this person, personally, but wonder why WF has so many managing levels. When I was a contractor here, and again as a newly hired manager, I had over 250 direct reports with no assistance, now you can't go over 20??

I’ve seen it go both ways:
“I expect you to ‘figure it out’ on your own”
AND\OR
“So you’re a cowboy, just doing what YOU think is important rather than confirming with others….you know like your manager.” usually which is followed with an 1 on 1 discussing on how going forward you’ll check with them going forward etc…

I’ve been approached by contractors who were not onboarded at all with simple questions. Of course I helped them. I guess that’s what our “leaders” count on. There’s always talk about an onboarding deck (what else) but it never happens. I’m in marketing. In the group responsible for putting together decks.

At least until I find something else. This is not what I signed up for.

They sure don't treat you like a baby. They expect you to be a big boy and figure things out.
