if intel were to become an acquisition target, who would be the most likely acquirer?

Private Equity? Extremely unlikely... why? The largest deal ever was $31B (RJR Nabisco), Intel is 3X that. Worse yet, the company requires huge capital expenditures, it is in a shrinking market, it's execution is flagging and the new strategy going directly after $TSMC is reckless and will require huge cash burn.
Private equity would be a shoo-in. Once the stock gets comfortably below $20 you may see the flies start to circle.
Pat after sinking it to bottom and will buy for < 100M.
Realistically private equity. No company wants to deal with managing their current successful business and spending the effort figuring out how to fix Intel.
AMD
Broadcom
Sears
Of "Bed, Bath and Beyond", I think only "Beyond" will be interested in acquiring Intel.
But if they break up Intel, someone will take manufacturing. Graphics will be gone!!

@bjf+1lpjt3Wo We let 1/10 of the population of Taiwan come waltzing in thru the backdoor of America via El Salvador, Honduras, etc. every single year.
Who among you wouldn’t rather productive, educated, Taiwanese immigrants than whatever comes tumbling out the Slavadorian garbage shoot? China is playing to win. This humanitarian BS needs to be second fiddle to attracting TALENT, not the pipedream of a bygone era in which we can take the world’s broken and destitute and keep in marching. China is playing to win, and we missed the chance to nuke them in the 60s.
Intel raises cash by selling off its fab business, knowing full well it has the Lord and Saviour in the back room, ready to sh1t leading edge chips in large volume.
The move nobody, except Pat, saw coming.
