Nepotism runs deep in Verizon

Is it even possible to get promoted if you're not well connected?

Where are the "boys in the hoods" when you need them?

The answer is you can do 100% of the work in a nepo laden group and the female (usually) manager will give your hard earned sti to some guy or girl she hired off the street, she will also promote the he-l out of her nepo’s so every manager in other groups thinks they are the best

The other problem is that your boss can block you from moving laterally into a better career track. So if you have no one up high looking out for you, your screwed. I've been blocked from three laterals I know of and perhaps a couple of promotions as well.

I know many nepotism products in GTS. One case was a big exception. Promoted to band 6 (principle Engg) after 3 years of total experience. Everyone else around her working super hard to get promotion but no one cares about them. She can’t even write 2 lines of code herself.

I used to be in HR. It was a metric we had to make. Qualification doesn't matter.

No, it’s not possible. Unless you live in the Ridge and kiss up to the SVPs every day. Good hardworking normal employees outside of Jersey don’t have a chance

It's doable if you're in the field. It almost always has to be someone from the team. In back office, Sr Mgr and above requires a Dir or above to advocate for you... really a VP/SVP. If you're not in the right hub location, you may also have to move. There aren't thousands of Dir and above jobs and you're competing with other Dir, so it's impossible without that exec support.

You have to be best buds with your leadership team, and located with one of those areas - only way.
