Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How many here ever had P&L responsibility?

I see a lot of complaining about management and I'm curious what percentage of the people here have ever had to do it themselves. Since counting the few who say they do without an accurate count of those who don't is useless I'm curious if there is another way to deduce this.

...I am a Division Manager... I also drive a Dodge Stratus!

Cisco has had Directors with many times as many reports as you with no P&L responsibility. If running a business were as easy as doing pushups all the people here should be CEO. Instead most are salary slaves with dreams of grandeur.

Just ask someone if they can do 100 push-ups in twenty minutes, like me. And yes, I am a Division Manager in charge of 49 people. Only Division Managers have that kind of physical prowess. People are scared of me - and for good reason. Not only can I physically outperform you but I also drive a Dodge Stratus!

We have enough finance wankers...

I'm talking managers where you are actively involved in the development of the product/program, not just at Cisco but in the larger corporate world. At companies with less extreme margins it actually requires skills to be net profitable, and as a result the managers have real incentive to get the best out of their people. Management that does this over the long term knows how to do this without burning their people. Three month programs don't have three year debugging phases before meeting FCS criteria which speaks to both the management and the engineering staff.

This skill is not in short supply.

We have enough finance wankers to fill a stadium and they are strangling Cisco with their ridiculous spreadsheets.

Tell me you’re bad at your job without telling me you’re bad at your job.
