Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Do you feel like you're always walking on eggshells at Wells?

Asking for a friend. There does not seem to be any commitment to employees. People constantly have to look over their shoulder, worry about layoffs, etc. Why be committed there if they aren't committed to you?!

It is not way to run a company when you need committed talent to run it and fix issues and they're constantly laying people off and stirring up dust. Bad for morale and engagement. The regulators should n-p it in the bud.

Happened to me after 24 years with my former company. I asked some questions that made them uncomfortable. I then found myself in a meeting room with HR and a couple of others to make it look better (one about to retire and the other from a closed office).

I’ve been walking on eggshells ever since I started working for a corporation in 1999. Doesn’t matter which one. There’s always gas lighting, attempts to brainwash into being a “true believer” in whatever vision or values the company dreams up and threats of losing your job constantly. It’s a fear based system and a real mind f—k. I hate it, but I hated trying to run my own business more. I just remind myself it’s a game. If I win the game, I keep getting promoted and can save more for the rainy day when the unceremoniously lay me off in a random meeting on a Thursday when I’m 58 years old and no longer a “hot hire” for anyone. True story happened to my brother after working for a fortune 100 company for 30 years. He was smart and saved and has been able to pivot to retirement. So I’m milking them for all they are worth as they try to do the same to me. I’ll do my job well because that’s my brand on the line, but they will never have my heart and soul.

This is so true. Middle management is completely spineless and has no ability to manage up, only kick down. I don’t have a single colleague at this company that isn’t miserable. Culture rot to the core.

Not walking in eggshells, but literally everyday I start work thinking "I wonder what the mo--ns in NYC will sc--w up today...", and I'm rarely disappointed.

Yes. Middle managers with no banking background not supporting team members for fear that their manager jobs will be eliminated. They kick down and gaslight their own team members, when they are supposed to support them. Never seen this at other companies.

More like walking around waiting to get punched in the face.
I used to enjoy my job here, but the good people have all been let go or quit. All that’s left are the senior manager’s sycophants and drinking buddies.
Not sure how I’ve survived. He doesn’t even acknowledge my existence. I’m close to retirement, so I guess they’re just waiting me out. But I’m not leaving without a package. At this point that would be leaving money on the table.

Yep, and watch your back with coworkers. They are actively seeking to make you "bottom of the list" when it comes to layoffs, putting bad words in manager's ears instead of actually working. Especially if you're good. It's particularly bad here. Go someplace where people feel secure.

Not walking on eggshells, but waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Not by a hub? You're getting displaced. Wait no you're not. Wait maybe you will be. If you are going to be displaced, and we're not saying if you are or you aren't, we'll let you know in plenty of time. We've always been transparent about this.

RTO? Go back to the office. No wait that only applies to people who were in an office before Covid. Oops, no it doesn't, it's everyone. Oops...we meant it's your choice. What? I never said that, it's everyone. No wait it's okay if you don't. Let me make myself clear, nothing about RTO has changed - we've always said that everyone has to go to an office.

Displacements in this group are over. Nope more are coming. We have no intentions of displacing anyone else in this group. Team, we just let Fred go. But we're done now, we promise.

Whatever they say, I don't believe.

There is this cross-section of employees that are all corporate-y drone-like. Cheerleaders and drama avoiders satisfied with the status quo, not willing to stand up and say something when something needs to be said. Pouring on the niceness so thick without acknowledging reality. Possibly touting on LinkedIn how WF is leading in X, or promoting Y. Feels like when someone is smiling at dinner across from you but never trying to make eye contact.

These people are walking on eggshells for sure, they have decided this is it, WF is where they are going to be and there isn't anything more out there for them.

Every single company for the last 20 years I’ve felt this way. I’ve never felt job security.

Never. Those who do are just afraid. It's both silly and sad. On a conference call just a few days ago and during Q&A the main concern was "what if is over your shoulder telling you to just do it instead of waiting for proper approvals???" How weak and spineless do you have to be to be scared to do the right thing? Environment full of hacks who've never been under real pressure, don't know how to manage their leadership and just full on punks who are too scared to tell someone no. Labor Lawyer would have a field day getting you paid out if you were retaliated against for refusing to go against a documented policy.

Constant stupid threats….. not completing training on time, not completing STAMP ON TIME, threats for not encrypting emails when 100’s are being sent/received, RTO threats, being pinged and having your manager contacted if you are 3 minutes late for a meeting……These are all simple things on the surface but when you are being interrupted incessantly and have to start things all over again, they become difficult.

Yes, because most corporations are highly loyal to employees... NOT. These posts are so stupid. I've been at WF for ten years in several different roles, and have never felt like I'm 'walking on eggshells'.

Name a big company that's "committed to employees" and won't lay you off if it increases their profit by a fraction. I'll wait

I had experience like that at a different bank, all of my teammates are from China.

the avg tenure here is like 10 years, you're not walking on eggshells. Try a tech company, tenure is counted in months. No one is getting laid off either, outside of mortgage, and that's the way its been for decades. Mortgage sales people get paid crazy, like 4-5X a normal salary headcount and then when rates rise they get laid off and wait it out and do other things like travel.
