Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Career Control or lack of

I love how EM keeps telling us that it is our career but doesn’t allow you the empowerment to apply for the roles you want or the transparency on the opportunities. This is just another tactic in a toxic environment company. Does anyone else feel this way? Does it gets worst as you go through your career?

It’s part of XOM brainwashing strategy that had worked for the past decades. Good luck getting that changed.
This company is obsessed with control over their employees, customers, shareholders, and even governments.

Business need. Willingness. Personal interest. It’s a Venn Diagram. The intersection is your next position.

The company will hold out a carrot for career development while at the same time whack you with a stick for speaking out as middle manager. The game is very taxing so if you are <40 you should really think about your other options

I’m in the middle 40s range; too old to leave or too young to stay. Still not sure. I am
Constantly frustrated that people who do not know me are making the calls which are ‘in the best interest of MY career’. Nope; they are only fitting people into boxes.

What really drives this point home is by luck of the draw getting a toxic supervisor that thinks she knows everything and drives the section in the dirt. If you’re not like her, she tanks your rating and derails your career. How do you control that? Leaving BRCP for better management.

There is nothing to look forward to - they are bending over backwards to retain the under 40 crowd. So what does that mean going forward? Once you get older - they care even less than they do now. There are no opportunities or career development as you get older.

I love how they us we are responsible for our career development but gove us zero tools with which to use! Been that way with Exxon for at least 30 years. As you get older the options are few and far between. Usually get dumped somewhere until you retire/PIPed.

It does not get better as your career progresses (ie, as the years drag by). It’s really best to quit this stale, toxic, sinking ship. Why does anyone below 40 still work there? Make a move and polish up your resume instead of posting here.
