Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Michigan Central

After all the not-so-good news, it is great to see the progress we're making at Michigan Central. This is going to look awesome https://michigancentral.com/about/
Can't wait to visit. Give it 3 years, Ford stock will be back in the $25-$30 range. Great time to buy.

Thought the same thing about the trains when Ford announced buying MCS. The Amtrak station located near Michigan and Oakwood could double as a light rail station to transfer employees from the Research & Engineering Center to the MCS. The idea was shot down immediately

Oh, and Ford did have an Aerospace division back in the 20th Century (1970's-1990's). Move that division to California before it was dissolved.

Could you imagine Ford designing vehicles that leave the ground? When you're up in the air, you cannot just pull over to the side of the sky when your vehicle dies because of poor quality!

I haven't looked in a while, but when The Factory opened and the train station was purchased, the prices for all the local Corktown houses for sale just skyrocketed. It was laughable. These were absolutely dilapidated houses listed at 400k. Even if someone wanted to move there to work for Ford, they'd have to pay way beyond top dollar for a house that would be better off torn down.

It was an unnecessary investment pre or post COVID. They had plenty of real estate in Dearborn. Finish freshening up a few buildings or tear a few down and rebuild on the existing campus. No one is moving to Detroit or joining Ford to work at the Train Station. D-mb decision which was a waste of $$ and continues to be a money pit. Hey, why not fire more engineers to fund this.

C moran is not happy to have his office in the Book Building, his ridicule for FLV, JF and BF is over the top. Who wins?

The only reason why Michigan Central is not the mobility hub it's was supposed to be right now is solely because of covid 19. Ford leadership is not to blame for the pandemic.

There is still more chance than not that Michigan Central can be a significant home for Ford's future business endeavors and home to other top technical companies.

You never know, Ford could sell it to Amazon for $2B. Amazon might be looking for a new HQ in the Midwest.

chuga, chuga, choooo, choooo. Detroit told bill that he needed to renovate the choo choo station because detroit has done soooo much for ford, and um you know bill. Sounds like white guilt.

Henry looked up to his german counter part, and his views on banksters where alligned.

Op are you going to live near by the train station? Or in Detroit?…share with us your experience! Haha. I don’t see people moving from Birmingham or Bloomfield hills to live in set.

The Michigan Station restoration project is a fantastic project to help bring more life to Detroit. I don't understand why so many people are complaining about getting nice things. I guess that's why we don't get nice things.
My only criticism of the project is that it doesn't bring back some sort of train service. The official website shows a silly line of passenger car sized AVs in dedicated lanes. You could get WAYY more capacity in a train or bus. GM used to make buses, and Ford used to own Novabus through Volvo. Why can't Ford make AV buses too (or trains)? Tesla is making rockets through SpaceX, and Ford used to have an Aerospace division.

Bill Ford loves the praise he gets for "Saving Detroit", when what he is actually doing is listening to his Ann Arbor lib. buddies and redistributing the shareholder's money. He took money from the renovation of the R&E center to satisfy his white guilt. The best thing for Detroit is a strong Ford Motor Co.

The train station project was conceived and launched pre-covid. Post-covid, no one wants to work in an office anymore.

Will there be parking for horse and buggy next to the scooter racks at the train station? Some water troughs and feed bins for the horses would be nice too.

@1hmo+1lwzBWpB no, but I am an optimist. There is a risk with every new business.

"New urban transportation...future of global mobility..." Sounds like they're giving up on cars, Ford scooters and buses?

@OP+1lwzBWpB You really need to layoff the cool aid. Last week there was an article published in the WS Journal that stated that other than his last name Bill Ford is not qualified to run Ford Motor Co. They mention the other two board members as well.

ref: 2/27/23 article about Fords F150 trouble worsens.

Ford previously owned the RenCen and ultimately sold it to GM at a whopping loss. Train Station will be another example but way more costly.

Corporate malfeasance at its best. The money could have been better spent on vehicle programs, the core business of the company. This project and the re-design of the product development center are disasters. The PDC project has gone through at least three architecture firms. After all the dismissals and off shoring of local jobs whose going to populate these buildings? After the train depot was built the highest level of occupancy was about 30%.

White Castle and Ford have many slimy and unattractive quality characteristics in common... they live in the same neighborhood in Coketown.

@OP

“Give it 3 years”
When it was purchased in 2018 they claimed people will call it “their work home by 2022 “.
Over a billion dollars later, and an over year overdue, it is nowhere near done.

Bill Ford’s legacy, Henry is rolling over in his grave.

My favorite part about the future plans / drawings of the Ford property in Corktown is that they always erased the White Castle across the street from 'the factory'. Lol. Or the Fire stone auto repair shop - the most service bays I've ever seen. I don't care how pretty they try to make it, that White Castle is really going to set the tone hahaha.
