Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

It's pretty much over

Sorry for the WTO folks. It's over. I heard that most open positions are on hold long enough for y'all to be gone.

What a horrible thing for leadership to do.

They kept out that bait so that you would train your replacement.

Shameful.

These people are evil.

at this point, yeah I want the pay and benefits but hate my job with every molecule of my body, and with young kids, no way out. Ill smile and say you are right but I hate every minute I have to talk to you and pretend to care. Good thing I get over 50k a year in RSUs for pretending to be awesome and blow smoke up you know where. I used to have a soul then I sold it to work here.

Stack ranking is alive and well. Has been for years. It’s called Talent Edge and a requirement to do twice per year.

  1. Contact every single person on your network and ask for any opportunities. A simple referral can potentially lead to a job offer, you never know.

This is the way to do it. Anything outside of that is just wasting your time from my experience.

I'll add a couple of more things. Understand that there is a good chance that you are being underpaid at Cisco. This can work out for the better by leaving.

Lastly, prepare for your interview like your life depends on it. Interviewing is mostly how much you can impress with your personality. Personality > Skill in most situations. I am an introvert and hate people but know how to turn it on for interviews.

If you do these things, you will look back at your time at Cisco and laugh.

Monday is going to be a sad day for you WTO folks but try to be positive as much as you can and look forward. The outside job market is very competitive right now and full of laid off tech workers but if you stay focus and prepare yourself, you will come out ahead. Here are some tips:

  1. Use the Randstad resume service to update your resume.
  2. Put your resume on linkedin, hired, ziprecruiter, and indeed
  3. Every day, take a couple of hours to apply to jobs online. It will probably take at least 50 job applications just to get your resume looked at but if you consistently apply every single day, eventually you will get an interview.
  4. Use this downtime to study for any certification applicable to your current skillsets. You're going to need this to stand out against your competitions.
  5. Contact every single person on your network and ask for any opportunities. A simple referral can potentially lead to a job offer, you never know.

Good luck.

@1umo+1lxDrOPx “Their arrogance will be their downfall”

They already got enough moneys to give their great great grand kids connections in Hollywood and whatever political party owning the media. That why they treat us as disposable objects to improve their stock price.

Best is to have an escape plan, and carry that out, and be happy that you control your own future!

“Performance Management” is what they are calling it not stack ranking…. But when it was asked on the AMA if that’s what it was TG said no… but then basically described managers stack ranking. My take is that he wants managers to tell employees more directly about their flaws and to get them in line to rally around these new Cisco Suites he wants to create…

From his email to SBG:
Performance Management: We will put additional emphasis on communication between managers and employees, and making sure we're all aligned. Performance management is how we’re going to do that. Which means giving clear feedback from managers to employees about their work.

Performance Management is basically 4 steps: Plan, Act, Track, Review.

They are arrogant and believe they are the "elite."

Their arrogance will be their downfall. They believe they are immune to consequences and disregard basic decency and even the law.

Eventually it catches up to them. It always does.

He is also introducing a new version of stack ranking… but he doesn’t call it that.

@1vfk+1lxDrOPx, I was invited to the SBG Ask Me Anything (AMA) meeting and heard about the hiring freeze. I had not heard about the stack ranking.

I can't figure out how/why I got invited to the AMA since TG reports to G2 and my chain reports up to MM. Hopefully that stack ranking doesn't get picked up by MM.

I found it very interesting to hear TG say that it was just for 30, 60, or 90 days and that they'd keep reevaluating it at each point to see if it was still necessary. Just long enough to not have to hire anyone via the WTO program and be able to hire external candidates. Why does CR & the ELT let anyone get away w/ this when they say that they want to keep as many Cisco employees as possible before bringing in new talent? Are they so ego driven that they can't see the hypocrisy or think we're so stupid we don't see the hypocrisy?

Req’s spending the first 21 days for internal hiring only was something implemented since roughly August time frame in preparation of the LR’s they were announcing for December/January. This is nothing new.

What is new is the fact that SBG’s new guy TG from VMware has instituted an immediate hiring PAUSE for all SBG. Just days before the March 13th cut off for the LR’s. Some of these people were waiting on offers to stay at Cisco and now it’s been yanked off the table. The most insensitive move. He is also introducing a new version of stack ranking… but he doesn’t call it that.

"I heard today that internal reqs are being posted for 21 days before being opened to external candidates (requiring VP approval) to accommodate those affected by WTO."

Um, aren't people done coming this next Monday? A bit late.

It is for RTP. I went there today and it was closed.

I really miss the old days especially about 19 years ago :)

Said by an obvious psychopath.

It's like trying to describe color to someone blind from birth. Psychopaths are incapable of understanding the difference b/w good and evil.

and they run Cisco.

There is no such thing as evil, it does not exist whatsoever.

Labeling something as evil only helps to soothe the ego. A quick glance in real world experience will show you that it is a complete fabrication of the mind.

WTO is an acronym for "Workforce Transition Options"

verb

A euphemism coined by Cisco Systems to undergo layoffs during times of high profits in order to fool employees and shareholders. It is cutting costs, avoid paying out hundreds of millions in stock options, and reducing the age of the workforce while avoiding the legalities of age discrimination. The employees only have the limited options predetermined by leadership. That is (1) take a grade and pay cut for a new job, or (2) take a package (legal bribe) so you can't legal action against Cisco.

In other words, pretending you are caring for employees while selfishly concerned about the company profits and share price.

I heard CR bragging about all his overseas adventures and luxury resorts.

Pretty funny that the ELT has so many fooled into thinking they are "social justice" minded types or care about anyone but themselves.

Oh well, it does not matter. This just accelerates Cisco's path from a formerly great company to also-ran. History is littered with them.
