Thread regarding IBM layoffs

When did the current hiring freeze start?

I was offered and accepted a position about two weeks ago, originally with a late March start date that turned into "sometime in April." I was informed earlier this week that it would now most likely be in May, but they can't guarantee that because of the current hiring freeze, which I had not been made aware of, and this was the first time it's come up. It's also different from their previous statement of "just not wanting to hire in Q1."

This position is related to but not contingent on winning a big bid. I'm starting to think that they're taking advantage of this freeze to see if we win or not; if we do, great, if not, they rescind the offer.

My question, however, is when did this hiring freeze start? From what I can tell online, this didn't start in the past couple of weeks, which meant they absolutely knew this was going to be the case all along.

The Hiring Freeze started in August 2022.

I was Redeployed in December for the 2nd time. I know, I should have run 20 years ago. Multiple applications submitted and being told all hires coming from Bulgaria, India, and Costa Rica. The actually official freeze started on 3/3/23 and there is no end date that they told us. We were paired with a company that does resumes, so our days are numbered. It was also suggested we look for jobs outside the company. Heard minimum of 3900 hundred souls will be lost on this round.

I heard we couldn’t hire until June. That was probably about 6 months ago. This was for US.

“ businesses would only pay for experience.”

Could it be that clients are finally wising up? Lol!!

Cheap is mostly synonymous with no experience and skills.

OP, I would suggest that you look elsewhere. IBM is about (end of March) to announce a major layoff. We have too many people at IBM for IBM to make its numbers.

To the poster... IBM always lies to you... If you end up getting the job (starting), heads up and get used to it.

The latest (2022) IBM Annual Report states the following regarding the number of employees:

For the year ended December 31: 2022
IBM/wholly owned subsidiaries 288.3
Less-than-wholly owned subsidiaries 8.2
Complementary* 14.8

So, that is still way too much... not sure why IBM is still hiring, IBM will surely have to layoff massively to make the FCF number.

A lot of people in Consulting are on the bench right now, most affected are entry level(recent hires) as businesses would only pay for experience.
