Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Enterprise PC Lifecycle Program is just as broke as the rest of this place.

Have been on the same laptop since 2017, virtually unusable, throttled, fan runs full speed if you even think about opening Outlook. Finally get an email to do a refresh and to prepare for an upgrade. Confirm my address and then receive an email with links to the FAQ's on how to make sure I don't lose any of my documents etc and of course, as was expected, clicking the link takes you to a page on Teamworks that says "The page you have requested has been moved or does not exist" (shaking my head, yet not shocked) and of course no mention or link where it went. The regulators expect us to fix things and we can't even send an email without broken links, this place is broken to the core.

yeah right, bring your own laptop and add corporate software to it. Are you kidding me? What bright management or HR rep thought of that option?

I’m not buying a damn laptop so I can work. No f—-ing way. They already took the corp cell phones (unless you are in CA). You gotta give me the tools to do my damn job or else I’m a contractor. I’m a W2 employee, so give me what I need to work! I’m

The large majority of us could survive just fine on in virtual desktops, using work/personal as a pseudo thin client. The VDI is awful and I'm less productive, but the bank seems to be ok in slower pace of work.

As I write this post, Microsoft Teams struggles and takes over leaving me time to take extended lunch or learn something new. WF is paying me so I let it be.

1oud+1lyLM09E VDI will NEVER be reliable or fast. The point of VDI is to reduce and shift cost/risk. Reliability and speed cost! Therefore they are at odds with the entire purpose of forcing you to VDI. The shifting of costs and risk from the corporations to the employees continues, and your attitude of acceptance is part of the reason. From defined retirement which moved the risk on the corporation to us via 401k (where they can rob us) to health care (obvious) the march to a third world economy for workers in the US continues. What will they next ask of us to provide for the success of WF while they profit Billions a Qtr? We are slowly boiling in the pot and they are gaslighting us into thinking they are doing us favor.

If any decision-makers are listening, I would LOVE to buy / use my own hardware. Absolutely love it. Tired of using old junk. The key is, VDI has to work and be reliable and fast. If you can pull that off, I'm game and the company could save zillions.

@1yli this is @ovd. In the decades I've worked here (many as a PC/LAN guy) I have only had a major issue with the hardware and the image since they switched us from Lenovo to Dell. It's also been at least 2 years longer than any previous lifecycle.

Then there's the whole great for shareholders, bad for users aspect of the cloud/vdi that's coming.

I just went through the refresh process and the technicians that did the work were great.
The initial communication and follow up was severely lacking though. I had to ask twice what date my appointment was.

First off, life cycle is on hold. Second, easy way to get a replacement is to actually call TC, flat out tell them it will not boot, and you get a replacement within two days. Coming on here and whining like they little WF crybaby you are, well then, I guess you will have that pos for another year or two.

Breaking your laptop doesn't change anything.

They are still handing out the same generation laptops as they did 3 years ago. Whether you got the laptop in 2020 or 2023, the life cycle still expires in 2026.

Obviously you haven't been paying attention DEI doesn't care about all employees and their hardships.

You need to replace the batteries in your sarcasm meter.

"Accidentally" drop it and break it so they have to replace it! I broke mine over the weekend a year and half ago and they replaced it immediately.

Did you ever ask to see if you can get another laptop or get it fixed? Seems a lot of people just want to whine I stead of trying to solve the problem expecting someone to knock on their door to solve it for them.

But whatever you want and BYOD is. Good news is that everyone in the corp will get to choose their own hardware soon, at their own cost. Go crazy OP and let that credit card go shopping.

Get a laptop replacement while you can. VDI is coming and then you'll have to provide your own if not in the office.

@kwj+1lyLM09E zero reason to call out African-American new hires. ZERO. It puts ANY employee with financial hardship at a disadvantage.

Come down off your high horse.

Better check the agreement you sign with WF about loading their software on your personal devices. Little things like, if your LOB is involved in a lawsuit or investigation, your personal device can be confiscated as evidence. Now of course, we all know that kind of thing NEVER happens at WF, so please, use your own device.

BYOD is not very inclusive as it creates greater barriers for African American new hires who may not have money to pay for their own work equipment.

Keep calling in a ticket. Ask tech to email your manager for new laptop.

That isn't what tech gives you. That is what your LOB wanted to pay for.

There are multiple performance levels that can be ordered. Whoever sets the budget for your AU just wanted to go cheap.

Yup, pretty crazy when you work in risk and spend your life in Excel and PPT and all they give you is a i5 with 8GB of ram, shows their commitment. A laptop you can buy for under $100 on eBay.. my daughter has a better laptop than this and she's only 10.

End user lifecycle went to cr-p after the account scandal. We used to get rock-solid Thinkpads and kept the Dell's and HP's for the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel loaners.

Then we were all moved to Dells. I haven't had an issue free day since.

The files will never ever make it. Save them on the network or you will lose them, guaranteed. I've never once had my PC replaced here and not lost something, until I retrieved it from a network drive.

My first laptop here was good. Plenty fast enough for my uses. When the battery went belly up I got stuck with a hand-me-down POS replacement. It was slated to be retired, model # was listed on a doc on the tech site and everything. Then they decided to change the dates to a couple more years out. I doubt it will survive until then.

Oh I didn't forget : @vdq+1lyLM09E my battery went dead LONG ago and I knew what a fe--s show it would be to try to get it replaced and had my manager screaming at me about unrealistic time lines so I just ordered a new one my self and put it in, it was a lot cheaper in the end to buy my own.

If it helps when I got a new laptop about a year ago, the instructions to move my files didn’t work anyways and I had a call into tech-support to help with the migration, hold onto your old laptop. Wait to get your new one and then call Tech support make sure all the files are transferred before you ship out the old one.
