Let's unionize.

I'm not sure how you think unionizing will let you work remotely longer or more often. In my market area, all bargained for folks are full time office and all management are flex. So if you unionize, it looks like you're going back to the office full time. At least here.

Union workers have caught up to and passed 1st line managers in total compensation. As managers benefits and raises have been cut union employees have continued to get theirs. This has largely happened in the last 15 years or so.

What does a union do for workers today? Does the union have teeth? There has been a real strike in 30+ years?

I think you meant to ask "Has there been a real strike in 30+ years?"

Fortunately, the answer is no. Will this continue to be the case? You don't know nor do I. I know I could go without an AT&T paycheck for several weeks and still be OK, so if there was a "real" strike, I'd be fine with it.
I kind of doubt with all the cuts to non bargained employees there will be large "Contingency Personnel Workforce" ready and chomping at the bit to buy their work boots a relocate for weeks, 2 deep in each cheap motel room for strike duty.
I would like to see this happen though, I believe it would give AT&T a much needed tuneup in attitude.

Sure, go ahead and organize your management positions into a collective bargaining agreement negotiated by union representation and see what you get for your monthly dues! Bad decision because it's essentially monthly dues without representation. They're nonexistent and powerless when the rubber meets the road! Think this alternative through very, very carefully!

Yes think very, very carefully if you want to go it alone, or care to "collaborate"(This phucking buzzword is in vouge these days, right?) with your coworkers to try to improve your work life balance and job security. Yes the Union requires dues, about 2 hours pay a paycheck, the company will try make you terrified of this fact. I have seen what the company does with a weak contract. See appendix J for the Prem techs, it is a bullsh-t job, turnover is stupid high. I have seen what the contract for core has done, and while not perfect, it is a damn sight better than any manager can get if hired in the last 20 years.

Be careful what you wish for! This is a terrible idea for many reasons.

Name those reasons please.

Still waiting.

I didn't even know at&t had a railroad.

I'm sure there are a lot of things you don't know, yet here you still are, draining a paycheck, for now. I hope your kids are grown and your mortgage is paid off.

Managers cannot unionize the the united states. AT&T has a lot of "nonbargained nonmanagement" that can be released from the company at will and for virtually no cost. Union members get protected.

“ ATT Engineers= are just reviewer and approves of a design created by a contractor. I am sure a BOT will take care of that one day.”

Umm. Who do you think is designing and provisioning our entire mobility network?

If you join a union - who do you work for? The union, the company, or your boss? I believe a move like that would increase outsourcing etc. I would assume the company would allow all the copper folks join a union?!?!

I do recommend management personnel unionize. Here’s the bottom line , unions get you more pay and benefits and JOB SECURITY than non union jobs. Just a plain fact by any measure. Sure , unions are not perfect and have many flaws. But they still benefit the employee immensely more than without. As craft , I enjoy over 100k a year for doing work that is stress free PLUS knowing it’s almost impossible for the company to lay me off now that I have 25 years. I sleep well at night.

Last I checked the company doesn’t have any real engineers.

Are you listed on the Texas Board of Professional Engineers or any Board ?

Yep, that is the first thing redundant "management" will try to say.

We have had more than enough of your corporate bullsh-t.
The people that are trying to make this company profitable, have become very tiresome of the mistakes of Randell and Stankey.

Go ahead with that, you will be out of a job.

We'll see about that.

As Legg would say.. "you're going to marinate in this for a little while." ;)

This would mean a few reminders here.. perhaps a few posters on walls around the offices.. maybe an email blast to all level 1 and 2 employees.

I think we could get enough people.

It really isn't, unless you're Stankey.

Management forgets that it is the people who keep this company alive, and they've been slowly chiseling away at the workforce. Maybe it would have been a bad idea when we used to have a quarter of a million employees, but I feel pretty confident that even 100 people striking would cripple the T today.

Why do we accept being screwed over? We were lied to about the cost of living adjustment. We were sold terrible benefits with zero input from those who need it most.

Enough is enough. If the company doesn't turn a profit, start with Stankey's wallet first.
