Anyone know if you can collect Unemployment after your severance runs out? Like starting June 1st.

Apply after severance is gone. Make sure the first week doesn't include any day from severance, they will not pay you the entire week. Do all steps, register for work, even if it is not useful, and make sure you go in person at the indicated address for register, not only online... I lost one week of payment because of that, $362 before taxes, if I remember well. Anyway, I got only one week payment, because I had to report starting new job. But I paid so many years for unemployment, and when you need it they make everything to do not get you the money... did not matter that those days I've been busy with someone in family having cancer surgery...
To @1avt+1m5jR1t9:
Yes, I was early “retired” in May last year ( I. E. SIRPd). I spent the summer mostly off not working getting resume ready, then started looking in earnest September and had my first job by end of October. I would not call $65/hr cr-p.
Since they worked at Ford, they were paid fairly well - they should have had an emergency fund of at least 6 months money for expenses , that is like life 101. When I got laid off last year, I could draw upon two buckets of money with two years worth of expenses. I’m married with kids, too, and earn most of the money. There is something to be said about living under your means
I know it takes longer now to find a FTE job; my point was that since they worked at Ford , they should not be in a position to need unemployment. They could try consulting contract firms for a bit, not as bad as it used to seems. Or start your own firm and hire yourself out.
Now if OP is talking about applying for unemployment to get what he/she can from the government before they officially retire “just because” they want to stick it to the man, then that is a different story 🤭
@1iez. A question,
I thought the extra COVID unemployment ended in September of 2021. I was hoping then it would dampen inflation. I did not know it continued.
Is this true? Thanks
Laid off in August. If I could do it over again would file for unemployment immediately. Ford will deny it. However, if you file an appeal it then goes to a court hearing. Paying an attorney to fight you in court costs Ford more than unemployment so they will not deny it a second time.
So anyone newly laid off, do not hesitate, go file immediately and follow the above process.
Unfortunately, Biden just ended the $400/week COVID unemployment so it's back to just the Michigan pittance.
@oyn+1m5jR1t9 There may be jobs available, but the salary is cr-p. Also, do you have any idea how long it takes to find a job with a comparable salary? MONTHS. Trying going through the muliple interview process, only to be ghosted at the last step. The hiring process these days is terrible. You can send out 20 resumes and literally hear from one person, only to not get an interview or be interviewed then ghosted. You are better off filing for unemployment to bring some money in while you try to navigate the hiring process.
If you signed a waiver offering you a specific number of months salary, after that number of months have passed, you are eligible for unemployment. If you received 9 months salary for signing the waiver, you’re eligible to apply for unemployment at the start of the 10th month.
In Michigan, under this example, you would be awarded approximately $350 a week for 20 weeks. There’s no need to do a lot of upfront paperwork, you can apply online with a brief follow up visit to Michigan Works.
Why ? You can make so much more $$ by ditching your razcyst 'usa' and getting woke with billy and the CPUSA. You will not even have to work ! Everything will be free and 'tough love' will abound ! [read quickly before this is taken down !]
Yes, you can. However it is not much.
Is there a reason you don’t want to work, because there are jobs available.
yes, start paperwork now.
