PIP at Cisco?

Got put on performance plan by manager. Timing seems suspicious about quarterly performance reviews. Is it possible this is just a way to layoff more people?

Yes, the next check-in will be all about performance. The leaders have been getting a heap of info and training material on it.
Additionally, they are rolling out “self-ID” which will allow them to manage “equity” quotas. So, just put yourself down in Workday as black LGBTQ+ with they/them pronouns and you should be safe. Don’t worry about lying, it’s “Self ID” remember, so nobody can question your identity.

Leaders just completed mandatory training, 8 weeks back or so, on what is required to be done prior to a PIP. First time in a long time from what I heard.

Cisco still does PIPs? How? I thought written performance reviews were a thing of the past once Fran introduced the People Deal.

PIP means you are such a bad employee that your boss can’t even wait until the next layoff to get rid of you.

Maybe. Or it means that you're not a suck-up / lackey and don't stick to the party line. But I disagree that it's because your boss can't even wait until the next LR to can you because it takes time to generate the paper trail of poor performance via a PIP and LR's are annual. Is it really worth the effort to have weekly 1:1's and written goals to "manage" a person out via a PIP w/ 1 month's severance vs. an LR w/ 4 month's severance?

I've only seen one person PIP at Cisco, and they were fairly incompetent. Why PIP someone with constant layoffs? Makes zero sense

I can't recall anyone being forced out via a PIP as most of them found other jobs outside of Cisco and quit before they could be forced out via the PIP. I was put on a PIP and given increasing more difficult weekly goals that were more & more outside of my skillset/job function, then suddenly my weekly 1:1 goals became pro-forma and more of an after thought. Cisco had announced the LR well ahead of time instead of the earnings call announcement and notifications the next day, so I had several months to line up a new job w/ a start date after the planned LR date and got to grab the bag of money on my way out. I certainly wasn't incompetent as I had a manager who wanted to transfer me to his team when I got put on the PIP, but HR actively blocks internal transfers. I had to be LR'd, wait 6 months, then come back as a contractor until the start of the next Fiscal year when I was converted back to an employee. It wasn't about my incompetence, it was about my new manager not liking me and running 70% of the original manager's team off w/ in 18 months to replace with his own set of suck-ups.

But if you end up on a PIP, your days are numbered. It's best to look for work and leave on your own terms so that you don't have a break in employment/income and leave that manger having to suddenly find someone to do your job before they're prepared to rather than letting them plan/schedule your absence so that it doesn't hurt them and puts all the risk on you for finding a new job before your severance ends.

PIP = PUNT

Begone!

Do not pass GO, do not collect $200

You can however apply for a open Steward or Stewardess position for the ELT's private plane; dress according to your daily Bud Light consumption.

Once you are in PIP, it is extremely difficult to come out of it . Good luck

If on a pip then that means for sure you are a target within your team. Leaving for another group is not an option. As soon as a LR needs a head, it”ll probably be you. Consider it an extended severance and find another gig

There was someone recovered from pip, and there was some not. Keep track of what they ask of you in writing.

I think management is getting a lot of blowback from the minions about the constant layoffs. So instead of layoffs, we’re going to get a bunch of people managed out via PIPs.

It’s tied to this IDP push too. Own your career! “Oh well you didn’t hit your own goal. Here’s a PIP” and then you’re gone. Kind of ingenious approach.

PIPs are ultimately a segue to the exit door.

You're toast. Leave this site now and start looking for jobs. And if you find something, keep both jobs until Cisco lets you go.

Yes, you start to get an inkling of the pip way before..coldness in 1:1s, blame games, everything is cc'ed to skip manager, documented emails of all the mistakes that you do.
