Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

JD wasn’t kidding about his hatred of remote work

Soo is he bluffing again? Or do you think he really means it this time?

I'm betting it's just another bluff / scare tactic. I'll be damned If I'm going back to the office 5-days a week again. No way!

Chase is tracking if you are in office when your schedule requires you to be.

In re this post:.... hello boomer - talking on the phone, using a physical whiteboard, having one off meetings to clear up confusion (which ironically creates more confusion than asking the same questions to the whole group)..... yeah, let's promote 'the way we've always done it' because nothing says innovation and progress like holding on to the past.....

@5ddy+1m7VCP1K Sure, perhaps the group meetings might be via Zoom at first. But the follow up meetings that require communication one-on-one will most likely be in-person. Faster to communicate in person and make sure you understand each other using perhaps even a white board, then talking over the phone where you are constantly guessing what the other person meant. And if you are unsure when you communicate in person, you can ask again and again right there and then to make sure both are in sync.

Faster to communicate in person? The comment you responded to pointed out that most of us are in different locations, so how would it be faster to get together around a physical whiteboard when I'm in the US and my mates are in the UK/India? How does that work exactly? We all book flights to London, and our UK mate reserves a room w/a whiteboard so that we can swiftly discuss the meeting that happened.... how long ago by the time we can all meet in the same location?

Yeah, so why not have those one off calls on zoom and use the whiteboard feeture or one of the virtual whiteboards we already have available. Seems like a faster way to meet - or are you not sharing that you've mastered the teleport capabilities that make your suggestion viable ;-) Better yet, let's ask questions in the main call so everybody is on the same page...

Also - if a group meeting requires follow up b/c people are not clear, then the meeting/communication is the problem, not the location of the people. If you can't solve a problem in tech by using the tech our company pays for, why are you even here?

They need you in the office to collaborate with the rest of your team! (…..which is offshore/out of state/otherwise offsite)

Severance and unemployment is almost always paid unless the individual is fired for a moral, ethical or legal reason.

If you don't want to go back to the office, that's fine with many companies. Because they will replace you in a heartbeat (and there are many applicants) once they fire you for not following company policy. And when you are fired, you don't get severance pay or unemployment. So many companies are laying off, your job will be given to a young, lower paid, full of energy, willing to show up to the office everyday, work early hours or late hours (perhaps even weekends). Then you can stay at home everyday. Just what you wanted.

Going to the office does not make sense for Tech. Team members are sprinkled around the world and communicate via Zoom. Even if there is a group in the same office, they have to be on Zoom to communicate. Going to the office is time lost that can be converted to profit for the company for those working remote.

Ahh, just need to find an excuse to justify paying for their office buildings. Seriously, at least come up with a better excuse, his made up reason for connecting and bonding with coworker is so bullish that it made me laugh.

Are you a managing director? If not, then calm down

I agree. There's NOTHING that Jamie can do to make me show up! I'm TOTALLY fine with getting fired at this point. Bring it on!

Well you'll likely lose your severance then. Just be prepared for that.
