To all my friends in Technology

I hope you like coming into the office.

See you all soon, TK is going to make sure of that

I suppose we know who will be listed in the ‘Most Powerful Women in Tech’ and ‘Most Powerful Women in Banking’

To the person who said folks hate a strong woman in reference to TK. You can be strong and still inept. TK is not strong. She tries to flex to make people think she knows what she is doing, you know the loudest voice in the room. But in reality she has no clue how to lead except to threaten and instill fear of one’s job. SVB enabled a cheerleader to run things into the ground.

TK is the absolute worst choice to run WF Technology. Just in predictable fashion she went to LinkedIn with yet another selfie. Fake awards, boomerang dances, ineptitude, silly demands because she has no respect or clue. Ok everyone Boomerang!!!!
She must have pictures of SVB or CS.

based on the VDI rollout they should all be fired or at worst be told they need to be in the office 5 days a week as penance.

Fair enough, and I agree. You're not alone. Probably 50k employees have been in the same position for a year now. It's a complete waste of time/money, but it won't change until CS/SP are gone.

@1qxp tell me you don't know more than two buzzwords that are selling points for the cloud.

@1sor that wasn't exactly my point. WF is going to waste money to try and save money by forcing me into the office if that ever happens. That's stupid and inefficient.

"why tk and not cm or sh? aren't they distinguished fellas?" TK was Saul's pick and I think they had history. Plus, female. And seemed to me she was heir apparent for a while now. I'd think CM is more interested in being a fellow and nerding out.

"Explain to me why the bank should spend money to have me sit in an office for 8 hours a day, paying for electricity, janitorial, security, water, sewage, HVAC, so I can talk to nobody since most of them (east coast/midwest) have left at my lunchtime?

Every single cost is offloaded to me via WFH once they migrate me to VDI. They would literally be burning money by forcing me to RTO. Particularly so since I've been WFH full-time for almost a decade."

Your point of confusion is that you think RTO is about efficiency. It's not, it's about demoralizing/frustrating employees so they will quit. That's the entire purpose and the OCs behavior reflects that reality. It's specifically because it doesn't "make sense" that they are doing it to us.

@1yus+1m7w6hpI Tell me you don’t understand the difference between CAPEX and OPEX without telling me.

No one has to make you understand why something is better. You should be able to figure it out as a “Senior SitOnMyA$$AllDayImBetterThanYou” that our Org appears to be full of and that you just outed yourself to be. Too bad for you the previous posts are going to slap you right in the d!ck but I won’t get to laugh about it because you’re some chump I don’t know.

Senior Software Engineer here. The majority of my day is executive decisions via interaction with webpages and spreadsheets all day long. Yes, I am on a team. We have two full team meetings a week where everyone is on audio, nobody uses the video. Only a handful of us live within commuting distance of one another because we support a follow-the-sun model.

Oh, and the bulk of my hard work happens right before/as India gets online.

Explain to me why the bank should spend money to have me sit in an office for 8 hours a day, paying for electricity, janitorial, security, water, sewage, HVAC, so I can talk to nobody since most of them (east coast/midwest) have left at my lunchtime?

If that's the forward-thinking leadership that this company is now in love with, I'll welcome that year of paid job hunt/upskilling with open arms. He-l, I'll welcome it with a freaking kegger a month.

And before anyone says "The techs in India are subpar" or "They can't do the job nearly as well as I can", the response to that is, so what? It doesn't matter if it all falls apart, the point is one bean counter can show another bean counter that the 'job is being done' for less money. Do you think anyone at the top either knows or cares that the work is a complete mess?

What people are failing to grasp is the the entire purpose of RTO is to get people to resign, so all this talk of "that's for you plebes, us tech types don't need to do that!" it's coming from people that are in for a rude awakening. It's specifically because you are hard to find and highly compensated that makes them want to replace you (with a guy overseas). If you were making $15/hr, getting rid of you wouldn't move the needle. But a bunch of guys making $100-200k/year? Thats who they want to outsource.

So welcome to the FRTO team. Better late than never techies.

Tech is all moving to India anyway. Look at jobs and you will see that. So anyone in tech located in the US is out the door. So relocate to India if you are desperate and stupid to stay with wells Fargo

@1xci+1m7w6hpI, How nice of you to address me personally! I won’t be calling you at all because 90% of the time when I’ve had to in the past, you’ve kept me on hold for hours and still not managed to solve my problem. Oh, but the real reason I won’t be calling you is cuz I’m leaving Wells in less than a month and found my local Tech Connections (Express?) where I’ll be returning my laptop.

And no, I’m not on call 24 hours a day for my role because who the heck would sign up for that?? I will, however, be leaving for a zillion different reasons with new ones added weekly. If I told you about the BAU dysfunction my team and I have to navigate, within a team and environment where we have zero advocacy and support, you’d stick your fingers in your ears and run off screaming.

And as for you, @ 1dxj+1m7w6hpI, and your special snowflake skillsets- LOL! I’ve been paid decently, some might say handsomely, for my niche SME knowledge and talents. It’s still nowhere near enough to offset the stress and frustration. I used to code when I was in more junior roles and loved it. I’ve missed it, but c’mon, I was a heckuva a lot more replaceable then than I am now.

Call us in tech when you have to log in at all hours of the day and night to do your job. When you are up for hours late into the night deploying work, then expected to go into an office because "reasons" it's a bit rich. Are you on call 24 hours a day for your role? WFH for Tech is more of an understanding that our lives are already frequently disrupted during non work hours that WFH helps maintain some semblance of work life balance.

We have hard to learn valuable skills sets. Are paid much more and easy to anger. They can't push the same stuff on us they do you. A non tech person can be replaced same day. Finding a replacement tech can take up to a year based on skill set. You and I aren't the same... hence the different rules

I am 100% on Team FRTO. That being said, I’m also among the 90% of WF NOT in Technology and am sick and tired of the notion that Tech staff should be exempt from RTO because they program and stuff. Are they not on teams? Do they not have managers or direct reports? Do they not collaborate? I’m on a team, have a manager and direct reports - we’re all in different locations. Only a couple folks I occasionally connect with on non-BAU stuff share my location. If I have to go into the office 60% of the time to jump on team meetings and 1:1’s via MS Teams or Skype, well then WF Tech folks sure as heck can do the same. Still, FRTO!
