Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Contractors having title Principal

In technology, All vendor contractors come with the title of "principal software engineer" in most cases their actual capability would be 2 grades below. I have been told that this is due to the amount of Money being paid to the vendor company for the person, which usually matches with pay range of Principal in Fidelity for most vendors.

I just think it's very unfair to actual
Fidelity Principal Engineers who are playing that role and have put lot of effort to get there. The management doesn't care about these matters, which can seem trivial but can add up to overall demotivation long term.

Principal is nearly impossible to achieve through straight up promotions. Just apply for a real opening. So much easier and faster.

That's freakin' understandable, you can bust tech lead chops real quick with just a couple of junior-level questions, kid.

Can be confusing in the Global work environment, not everyone goes to check in who's who where it's only apparent in one of the fields. I know one person in Ireland was confused on who is the actual technical lead in the team

Same story, Worked very hard for years to become principal, and throughout they kept bringing these migrant H1B visa contractors, whose skills were extremely poor. The management doesn't care about the grades below them, as long as they themselves are not affected.

As with most of the corporate world, actual performance/productivity has very little impact on your career. Start making a habit of getting time with your boss, and your boss's boss

Quit your cozy Fidelity Principal gig where you take 3 dang years to crank out a joke product, and get out into the real world to find a job. If ya land one, congrats! Now don't sc--w it up and stick 'round for a year.

no kidding, they're contractors, hence temporary help. I'm surprised they even have a title.
