Thread regarding Ford layoffs

5-15-23 Weekly Layoffs Thread

Not starting to stoke fears, but sharing what I’ve heard - colleagues been trying to move around, but every position seems to be “on hold” even though they are tenured and have stellar track records (or even were offered a position, then rescinded due to “tightening of roles”, even though we are posting 100s of open internal/external roles?). Several team members affected at the LL6 and GSR8 levels.

What other rumors are we hearing? Like others, we are stuck in golden handcuffs, and I’d rather try to time some moves without having to sacrifice gains in my 401k or lose vesting since I’m under 5 years yet.

Avoid the turbocharged engines. That is where the expensive Tundra issues have been.

Good luck with the Toyota Tundra. My relative is switching to Ford for their next vehicle because their Tundra is trash and is always in the shop for repairs. Japanese vehicles lost their top tier reliability in the early 2000s.

Ford is building poor quality products. It seems like All the qualified engineering and quality employees are gone. I wanted to buy a new F150 but recently heard about all the 5.0L engine failures due to broken connecting rods. I’m staying away.

I love my Toyota Tundra. I wasted so much time dealing with recalls and pi---d good money away. Soros is serving Ford a very cold plate of revenge.

I’m starting to hear all over the place the cuts are coming. It might be sooner than prior to the 4th of July weekend.

Someone started a great thread re: what to do prior to layoff with some good suggestions.

I was unlikely to be SIRP'd too. Then I was. To the last poster, their algorithm makes no sense. Multiple year high achievers with HTHD designation were let go last August. In Mach e. People that claim "this area is safe" or "those people are safe" are full of cr-p. No one is safe.

NO ONE

@2prt+1mDCONY9 "We've offered buyouts in the past. If you didn't take those opportunities, then that's on you."

Wasn't ready a few years ago when it was offered, but ready now. Since I'm unlikely to get SIRPd, I was hoping for VSSP. If not, I can continue pulling down a 3Q HTHD salary and bonus for another year or two.

Oh goodie maybe we won’t have to listen to Darren A going on and on about how cool the Mach E frunk is. And how cool it will be to play XBOX while the future Mach E drives him to work.

Of course layoffs are coming. The stock and financials are a mess. Lawler is visibly jittery knowing how bad it is. The so-called product teams pretending to work on Ford OS aren't delivering, everything is delayed. Vehicle programs are being cancelled and none of the subscription services are getting traction.
If anyone of the Ford family is serious on saving their company, Farley, Field and the rest of the clown need to be eliminated immediately.
Notice all the fakes brought in from outside automotive are hiding and some ( THANK GOD ) have already resigned! Good riddance.

Anyone have any information from the Global Leadership meeting today for Ford Credit?

I wouldn't count on it happening after memorial day. August 22 was just before Labor Day. It could very well be Monday the 22nd.

Good luck to us all.

It will be the week of June 5th or the week of June 12th. They will wait until after Memorial Day for layoffs starting but definitely August. All depts. and all Salary grades. If you did not get moved recently you could be let go in the remaining headcount. More volumes of work going to FCGBC from some depts. Training FCGBC has been done in preparation of employee moves as well as future layoffs in the next three months. Some of those who have been training FCGBC will be let go like the people were last year that trained FCGBC and then were fired.

@1yhb+1mDCONY9 Ford Credit just can’t be counted on to bury poor earnings from manufacturing (AND MODEL E) these poor credit ratings days.

Ford Credit has a Global Leadership meeting tomorrow 9-11AM. Only LL5 and above can attend. It's the same meeting before the August layoff last year.

Well, this thread helped me decide that a heart to heart with my senior manager is a bad idea. Moves don't look like they're happening and speaking up gets you canned, despite not wanting a culture of fear.

Thanks everyone seriously for the inputs here.

The Toyota Stout will corner the small truck market. Ford could have chosen to build quality Maverick and build enough to satisfy customer demand instead of playing the usual Ford games. Now that goose is cooked.
The same will happen with the remaining few vehicles Ford produces.
It’s a shame

@zqs+1mDCONY9 @tyg+1mDCONY9 - The two reasons I am never buying a Ford again. The offshoring of engineering jobs and the gutting of the core vehicle engineering competencies. I just read an article that stated the company is going to test drive each to find defects, that is a ridiculous scheme and a waste of money. Design and build it right the first time. What happened to all the standards, methods, best practices, CAE analysis and FMEA that is supposed to prevent quality issues and produce consistently performing vehicle at end of line?

I guess its the executives that gutted PD and VOGO.

After a town hall where the executives told us that the funding and job transfer barriers were going to be broken down, I decided to make a move. I asked my supervisor and manager if it was okay with them and they approved. I interviewed with a manager and a VP. They were excited to have me on there team and started to get the transfer process going. A month passed and I was getting curious what was going on, so I called the hiring manager and he told me that the funding would not transfer and that my manager had also denied the move. I met with my manager and he told me that I was too valuable an employee to move out of the department, I had a valuable skill set. Eight months later he told me, "Today is you last day, your skills are no longer needed."

So I guess I was just headcount fodder to my manage. They all lie.

Separations are coming fast - LL5s have been asked to sign NDAs - also, shareholders are furious over BoD elections, Alexandra is on the chopping block - Lawler is stressed, financials are in the toilet and poor Farley is blaming everyone but himself.

@tyg+1mDCONY9. Question: How much data are we getting from the ONLY 12,000 EVs sold in Q1? Answer: Not enough to cover your paycheck for that period.

Ford will restructure its China operations to turn one of its joint ventures into an export hub for low-cost commercial electric and combustion vehicles, chief executive Jim Farley said.

I highly doubt any so called rumors about connected vehicle org. Data is the key to our Model e projects and Ford's growing future. You cannot have profitable and exciting customer subscription offerings without data.

What a great time to be working in this God awful state. High taxes, high insurance, cr-ppy weather and now more unemployment. I really dislike Michigan more and more. Born in this state and God willing will leave sooner than later. Sorry to all of us that deal with this never ending BS. I used to be a happy worker but not so much now a days. Good luck and God speed.

Heard another rumor that the southern based CV LL3 is also going to be part of this. You'll see his "retirement" announced very soon......

That means that the CV team is on the block.

You've been warned.

Yes this is what happened in July/August priori to August SIRP.

I'd say we are in the end game now. It will happen in the next few weeks.

Oh, and the job market is infinitely worse than it was last summer. Good luck to you all.

I would assume if transfers are hold they don't want anyone moving to a "safer" role before any restructuring. May help avoid any future lawsuits where affected workers will point out the bias in allowing certain folks to move, while others are denied. I was SIRP'ed in August, but had a role I interviewed for put "on hold".
