I’d say 8-9 years from about 2009-2018. There was one promotion with a couple of 2% raise.

8 years, 2006 to 2014. Since then, compensation is up 80%. When it rains it pours...

Cisco doesn’t give cola raises.

Having worked at an honest company that did the same thing management said outright no one was leaving for more money so there was no need to pay more. The half of us that walked right out the door heard they later changed their minds.

Reverse your perspective and think of how you play the role of consumer: if you went to a car dealer who only asked $60K for a car, would you offer $75K? Also, if a dealer asked $75K and you could get it at another dealer for $60K which would you buy? When you switch back to producer mode, how would you get a customer (perhaps not your current customer) to pay more for your service?

If you have met expectations and did not get pay raise for 5-6 years, you should talk to upper management and make your case for pay raise.
I have come across managers who don’t have basic skills to present your work to upper management or do a unbiased performance review.
You can also raise a HR case if you don’t get a pay raise for 5-6 years. Atleast they need to raise your salary for inflation or market adjustment.

Many of them say 4 years.
May be they were on the upper pay bracket of their position
Or
They got promoted twice in 2-3 years and then stuck with same pay for 4 years
Or
Their manager took advantage of them.

When revenues are going down in a group …. BU won’t give pay raise to 70-80%, only selective few.

During the wage freeze near the middle of the 200Xs Cisco didn't even give raises with promotions. They announced in the all hands a couple years later that they were lowering the salary scale for a number of US sites outside of SJ which which by the time the financial crisis hit meant raises at remote sites were hard to come by for many years with plenty of layoffs to discourage dissent.

People probably don't even remember companies like HP doing pay cuts of 5-10%. The transition from leader in growth to leader in legacy means the money, and therefore the talent, move to the next growth leader.

The first rounds of layoffs for the FAANG companies which manage so abusively that most people don't stay more than 2-3 years is a sign that some are about to transition from infinite growth to reality as well.
