They will NOT give severance for RTO non compliance. No reason to as it would eventually lead to termination with cause.

It will be a waiting game though because performance or non compliance issues typically take the slow boat to get to termination. And WF seems to enjoy the slow agonizing axe of employees vs ripping the band aid off efficiently. Why not make it miserable with a cr-p year end review and no bonus for non compliance — then employees will be pi$$ed enough to quit and make it easier for the “firm”.

Haven’t heard of any today but have heard they’re trying to figure out a solid plan on the legalities to move forward with displacement of 100% remote employees. It’s a hornets nest because some have been remote for years, some are outside of 40 miles, some are within 40 miles, some managers granted remote exception hall passes verbally, etc.

Then they have to staff up in India and Philippines for those bait and switch displacement replacements. Gonna take some time.

They’ll also want to see who they can axe without a package for cause for failure to comply with RTO.

@htp+1mEl3Mou The language in the handbook specifically says 40 miles to a hub is the threshold. Why would it be 20 miles?

@peb+1mEl3Mou

They may have to offer severance for some of those who were always WFH. If they have to drive 20 miles to a hub now, that is a material change in the job.

Will they actually layoff for RTO noncompliance, or move towards termination for cause without paying out severance? The former is rewarding non-compliance for the people want to be laid off and paid severance. Don't get me wrong, I hate RTO. But will they really allow people to indirectly "volunteer" for severance via RTO non-compliance when they won't let people volunteer directly? In other words, send the unofficial message that if you want severance, just stop coming in to the office?

Maybe they’re holding off to see if the US defaults. Can’t blame layoffs on Covid or the last CEO anymore. Might as well blame it on the economy tanking?🤷🏻
