Cisco culture takes over Palo Alto Networks

https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1m3P1VdY

With all the Cisco people hired in the last couple of years, we are going thru the same mess they had. We have no leadership here. Our SVP is a Cisco and Z retread. He has no clue about security but talks a good game. He is not credible, arrogant and only focused on himself. Our SED in Commercial is only focused on her career and who she can use to get to the top. We have all these support issues and she tells us to own it while she focused on her next career move. She is not very experienced as a manager so no clue on how she got to where she is. We need better sales and engineering leadership. We are losing ground quickly. We are quickly becoming Cisco 2.0.

I was there a few years ago and saw the writing on the wall when on the Friday FML sales call they were discussing offering us drag dancing lessons for an upcoming drag dancing contest.

Unfortunately management culture had evolved to "lead by talking" than lead by example

On the software side Cisco has the worst technical leadership I've ever seen. If your career is plagiarizing bits into white papers at least have an Engineer 1 who hasn't had the clue beaten out of them yet review it so they can explain why the bits you stole are self contradictory and even the individual pieces in a vacuum are still useless for addressing the problem at hand.

The sad thing is some went in to Cisco with real talent but somehow that place makes them worse than useless. After all, it's not the deadwood checking in all those bugs that are eating most of your development budget.

@hmj+1mHFiG6O Working there sucks so they’ve already churned through all the people they could hire.

I can see why Cisco would hire someone from Palo Alto, but why on earth would Palo Alto ever hire a c-level Cisconian? Makes no sense.
