Oh yea, that offshoring and outsourcing in general has worked wonders! Now every time we want to update one of our web applications even with a minor change, we look at a 6- to 7-figure bill and 3-6 months. It looks superficially on paper like we're saving money due to headcount, but in reality, this has put the company in a terrible position as it's outsourced almost all applications. This has proven true again and again going back to outsourcing billing software to Amdocs, engineering to Tech Mahindra, software dev to IBM, and so on. You think those companies are in it to save AT&T money?
Not really. Most companies realize at this point that offshore doesn’t work well with the time zone differences. Not to mention the quality of work is total garbage (see code). Most don’t realize the outsourced job gets outsourced by the outsourced company and they outsource it a bunch of times too. Ever wonder why there are so many people on a call and only 1 person talks? That’s why. But no, most of our jobs can’t be offshored for security reasons and just simple cultural reasons.
I mean, not really. Time zones don’t align, are frustrating and despite what upper leaders think, virtual workers DO highly collaborate. We are a telecom company with great telecom tools for virtual collab and we have a large working knowledge of the telecom industry and technology with hands on experience that overseas people simply don’t have. Eventually they’ll realize this mistake, sooner or later. Likely later unfortunately.
Worse than this, they will bring in people on H1B visas, saying they cannot attract good talent here in the US. H1Bs are handed out like candy. It is the one thing globalist Republicans and Democrats can agree on. They get cheap labor and a submissive, future citizenry.
