What are some of the nicer and more affordable suburbs in Atlanta? It’s time to start planning.

I live in SE Canton and commute to the Alpharetta office…takes me about 25 minutes traveling on scenic back roads, traffic hasn’t been a problem. Lots of folks commute from Cu----g GA, the commute time from there is similar. Housing is expensive everywhere, don’t buy more house than you need.
I lived there for 3 years previously while working here. It was relocation as part of accepting a promotion. I hated every minute in Atlanta. The traffic straight up sucks anywhere within 20 miles of downtown. Doesn't matter what direction. Stay the phuukk out of Fulton and Dekalb counties if you can. Really all counties within 30 miles of downtown. That's the rub see. You certainly don't want to live downtown, midtown or Buckhead. The only possible place I'd recommend is the Galleria area, but you've still got a long drive to Peachtree or Lenox every morning and afternoon. Living in Alpharetta or somewhere further North will just add to your daily travel.
I lived in midtown (zoned as Buckhead) and it was the only time in my life where I slept with a loaded pi---l at bedside every night. I basically woke up every day hoping my car hadn't been broken into as well.
If they don't give me a choice and choose ATL for me, I'll do my best to avoid the worst parts of the city for sure, even if it costs more. If they give me a choice, I'll move to a Dallas suburb and just deal with the commute.

Any area I would recommend would not be in one days driving distance of Atlanta! It's like a southern Detroit.
Please do not move here. Too many people already which has destroyed the quality of life. Traffic is a nightmare no matter if it’s the interstate or side streets. I’ve lived here all my life and the once admired southern charm is disappearing with all the transplants from areas that do not know what common courtesy is.
Before moving there, buy a fixed blade 6" kn--e to carry daily. Or a concealed pi---l, if you're politically inclined to do so. Learn how to get to your we-pon of choice fast and use it properly. Then relocate and hope for the best. Ra-e whistle? Nobody pays attention to them, like car alarms these days. Also, hopefully you like 16 lane traffic at 80 mph, and seeing the homeless suffer daily beside you..
Carry a 9mike and a32 in your shoe. Y’all be ok.
Watch the local news for a week. Unless you can work on Alpharetta and live somewhere north of it I would not waste my time unless you tend to like the ga----a lifestyle.
Anywhere North. Canton is great and if only going in a few days a week has an express lane that will take you inside the perimeter about 10 min from exit. Easy weekend retreats to Blue Ridge mountains.
Why would you move to save your job for a company that obviously doesn’t give a d@mn about you or your family? Tell them you intend to relocate and string them along, but spend your last six months here looking for a new, better job at a company with a future.
Plenty of places to set up a tent, place a box or live in a van down by the river.
Athens, lol. Unless you have 7 figures to put in a home, nothing in the ATL area is both safe and decent.

Before you buy or rent in Atlanta anywhere at all, drive it during morning and evening rush hour 3 straight weekdays. Then decide if you can handle that. If you have kids, figure out what daily school commute they'll have and if that makes sense. Beware of gang activity in some schools. Don't get shanked, shot, run over, as--ulted, or mugged, and you'll find it a typical huge metro us area with much to enjoy, at high home prices with high mortgage rate, and high restaurant prices, like everywhere else now. Good weather, except when it's so hot and humid you can barely function outside. Beggars, b-ms, addicts, and homeless will be a daily sight, and perhaps some interesting interactions for you. Ever see a drunk man in a wheelchair take a dump off to the side of his seat, on a sidewalk 8' away from your car? If not, you may. And more.
Decatur, Brookhaven near Lenox office and Alpharetta, Holly springs, Duluth, Woodstock - all charming towns in north Atlanta near alpharetta office.
Moved during GeoRat 5 years ago and live in Northwest Of Atlanta up 575. About a 45 minute commute to North Point but couldn’t afford to live closer.
Atlanta is chock full of cultural enrichment. Sometimes, you can be enriched at 2am through a basement window, pumping gas, or shopping for groceries.
Atlanta is a pit. Good luck.
Both Atlanta and Dallas have a highest crime rate in the country. Largest population of homeless people. Lack of affordable housing. Worst school districts. Move there and watch your job to be transferred to India.
You may want to also locate the nearest unemployment offices in ATL, because you'll likely be laid off three months after uprooting your family and relocating.

It’s mostly ghetto and there’s a lot of morbidly obese women there that refer to themselves as divas. Traffic is insanely bad throughout.
I really like Alpharetta! You cant go wrong here.
The gotcha is if you have kids in school…..what the districts offer can vary widely. ESP if any have special needs.
If you are coming solo, or with a spouse, just rent for a half year till you get a lay of the land…
If you are ok with a long commute you can find affordable housing but anything within 18 miles of Downtown Atlanta, which can be a 40 minute drive each way is pricey as area has had a population bo-m, expect to pay between 575K on the lower end to close to 1 million for a good school district. Also be warn anything. built in the 70s had some questionable building codes so expect to drop another 50- 100 K to bring the house back up to code where is it safe for your family. I bought my place for 455K in 2015 and now houses in my area are going for 1.3 Mil. A lot of people moving in from West coast or NY area do not even blink when they see a 3800 sq foot home on a half acre of land for a 1 Mil. Property tax for housing is very low here as well. Auto registration, if you bring a car in think about if you want to keep it for awhile since you have to pay to title from out of state but once you do get the title it is only 20 dollars for as long as you own the car. does not matter if it is a beat up Pinto or brand new Audi A7, you will get a bill for 20 dollars on your birthday every year.
