Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2021-2023 Ford Bronco models over a seat belt access issue.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the first-row seat belt latch plates may be difficult to access from their stowed position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

The hazards: difficulty accessing the seat belt latches may result in occupants not wearing their seat belts, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Affected vehicles: select 2021-2023 Ford Bronco four-door SUVs produced at the Michigan Assembly plant from September 23rd, 2020, to May 9th, 2023.

Number of vehicles affected: 175,550

The fix: dealers will add a sliding clip latch stop to the driver and front passenger seat belts, free of charge.

As with all of the other recall issues, has anyone within the development stages made mention of possible design flaws? My feeling is, the engineering and design staff that were once in place at Ford have either been squeezed out, moved on or retired.

Ford has become reactionary to their problems. Throwing bodies on a fire doesn't fix a root cause. Cost cutting measures that get placed on suppliers just add to the poor overall quality.

I once worked at a major supplier. During the Aerostar times, there were ignition switches catching on fire during durability test cycles. How about the time they had the ABS pump tied into the high blower feed which resulted in the terminal heating up and losing connection. The fix? Use a beryllium copper terminal with 100mm of wire also crimped to it as a heat sink. Or, Air Bag connectors that were defective on Explorer and they utilized the horse race tracks for repairs and final line testing.

It's worse now though. Either people are afraid to speak up, or they don't know enough to know to speak up. Low cost region engineers and designers make things difficult as well.

They are way overdue to clean house at MAP. We can't afford to mess up ranger and bronco.

Damn Ford is all over social media now with their LGBGTQ vehicles and not in a good way. Ouch.
