Ford to use Tesla's chargers

https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/25/23737896/ford-tesla-ev-fast-charging-elon-musk-twitter-space

Remember when Ford announced that the Ford charging network would be larger than Tesla's? 😂😂

Ford sucks. Tesla will be making EVs long after Ford is on the dust heap of history.

for me, i want my fresh ride to have a convenient fuel source.

it was puzzling to me that F didnt do the branded chargers like Tesla does

https://starkmanapproved.com/why-ford-and-gm-will-not-survive-the-ev-world/

“ That Ford and GM have opted to look to Tesla to overcome their managements’ poor vision and planning underscores the tragedy of these once proud companies. It borders on pathetic that these companies want their customers to utilize Tesla’s charging equipment and be routinely exposed to the company’s logo and other marketing messages that conceivably could be introduced. The decision also speaks to Ford’s and GM’s lack of faith in the Biden Administration’s ability to oversee the buildout of a reliable national charging network, despite committing $7.5 billion to the effort.

Helping Ford and GM sell more electric vehicles benefits Musk because the legacy automakers lose considerable money on every EV they sell. Ford and GM make most of their profits selling their climate destroying SUVs and trucks, which is why for all GM CEO Mary Barra’s talk about selling more electric vehicles than Tesla by the end of 2025, GM last week announced it would invest more than $1.5 billion to upgrade its gas engine truck factories.

This forum just likes Elon because he recently revealed himself to be a conservative / racist / s--ist / bigot who opposes DEI and remote work. This forum is made up of people that agree with him on these topics.

They also think BEVs are never going to happen and that only wealthy 'libs' buy them to virtue signal.

@iulq+1mNBGO1v. I’d bet in favor of Elon Musk in a ring against both Bill Ford and Jim Farley EVERY DAY.

More Elon fanboys... I thought you all believed that EV was a pipedream and destined to fail?

Teala cannot manufacture to save their own skin. Their wealth comes from funds off of taxpayers backs.

If Elon was smart, and the evidence suggests otherwise, he would realize that Tesla's only value IS that charging network. He needs to partner with as many real OEMs as will accept him.

Saw this great comment posted elsewhere:
Mr. Musk put Ford & GM in a pot of room temperature water & he will slowly turn the heat up.

To the victor go the spoils.
Results speak for themselves. Elon was the only one capable of building a reliable network of charging stations. So let him expand his network and pay him to do it, then it will be done well. Others can pay a fee to use his service, which is fair as he will need to maintain and upgrade his service.

If the big 3 were smart they would purchase components and batteries from Tesla as well.

From the Detroit News, Tesla is the winner here, not Ford:

Tesla set for $3 billion boost from chargers at rivals' expense

Tesla Inc. stands to earn as much as $3 billion by 2030 thanks to deals with Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. for their electric vehicles to use its charging network, according to Piper Sandler.

The Elon Musk-led electric-vehicle company announced the latest deal Thursday in a Twitter Spaces audio chat alongside GM Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra. It was Barra's first appearance on the social media site since Musk completed his purchase of Twitter late last year. Ford CEO Jim Farley announced its deal with Tesla in a similar arrangement in May.

General Motors has the same deal. Pity the Tesla owners waiting in line behind Ford and GM vehicles.

I'd be embarrassed to be seen waiting for a charge when I could rocking down the highway in an ICE vehicle.

I’d be embarrassed if a Tesla owner was waiting in line behind me while I was charging a Ford.

@1okp+1mNBGO1v, @1lvc+1mNBGO1v and @1lsf+1mNBGO1v. I completely agree with your comments. This seems odd that Elon is buttering up Jim Farley as a business genius. Ford will lose money on this venture as it has with other partnerships. Elon is no prize either and I think it is possible that he wants to either hobble Ford or on the far side take over the company.

Are we sure using Tesla chargers not going to make out BEVs catch fire?

Did anyone do the DFMEA/FMA for this?

“If so, is it so newsworthy to note Ford will be one of the manufacturers to use the network?”

The difference here is that Ford is adding the Tesla charge connector to their 2025 EVs, rather than just using the CCS standard, there will be a converter for existing vehicles but the thing here is that it’ll integrate with Ford directly. The earlier announcement for all manufacturers I think it Tesla updating their charging stations with CCS connectors, but not all stations will have them.
Having charged at multiple CCS stations and getting connectors stuck has made me low key start to hate the standard. It’ll be interesting to see if the Tesla connector will be more reliable

This is great news for a change. Time to buy F. On May 15th right after a certain billionaire announced that he expected F to decrease in price, I loaded up on F and have seen an increase of 6% in 11 days. Times they are a changing, finally. Look for F to double in 12 months.

@1lvc yes Ford whined to government that Tesla was being anti-competitive by not allowing all EV to charge at its stations. BooHoo crocodile tears from the class clown.

Let’s hope the American standardization has a look at common sense things Europeans have already done. And that Ford isn’t allowed to do the design work

I’m confused here. Hasn’t Tesla already announced to the US Government that they will allow others to use their charging network?

If so, is it so newsworthy to note Ford will be one of the manufacturers to use the network? Aren’t we the #3 player in this vast volume of EV vehicles, 7% of total vehicle sales, that the other 2 volume players GM 2nd, Ford 3rd would be utilizing Tesla’s charging network.

Mosquito doesn't stand a chance. 45 billion market cap, versus 580 billion market cap. Ford isn't bish slapping anyone around.

Tesla could force buyout Ford, and dissolve the corporation if they wanted - and they would only take a 10% hit to their financials.

Put things into perspective. Ford is going to do what Tesla tells them to do. Or, Tesla, is going to allow Ford to participate, how they see fit. Ford will purchase the Tesla chargers, making Tesla more wealthy, because they can't do anything otherwise.
