Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon RIF a blessing

Tuesday afternoon my husband received the dreaded Wednesday morning meeting invite from his manager. Rumors had already been swirling about a RIF but he was still shocked when he was told he was out.

He’d been a high performing, loyal worker for 16 years but that didn’t seem to matter. The company he once loved working for is no more.

His “manager” didn’t even have the courtesy to let the rest of the team know what had happened until Thursday. No compassion, no sympathy for the extra work they will have to do, no remorse.

Two days later we are realizing what a blessing this is. His stress is gone. He has a new outlook on life.

So thank you Verizon for making the decision for him. He is taking the money and running as far away as he can from you and your s*1ty management.

Labor is the biggest expense by RIF employees this should help the bottom line. With that being said and a stockholder keep the labor cost low and increase dividends.

Where are people going? It seems to be hard to find IT/tech jobs in this market

I was a top performer for 24 years and got let go last year. Village id--ts would rather have several id--ts cost the company money by missing SLAs than pay a few people top dollar that knows what the he-l they are doing.

My biggest advice to people still there is get as much IT certifications on the company dime as you can

Guys high performing doesn’t mean anything. Take the money and get the Ef out now. Don’t try and stay you will regret it. I’m at a place that has flex time and my salary is 35k more and an opportunity for commission. They took commission away at Verizon.

This is exactly my story too. I was laid off in October and both of us were delighted. I found a great job and life is much better. I was appalled at the way my s—tty manager handled myRIF. I’m glad I don’t have to see the b—-ta-d anymore

For grim counterpoint read the minions brown nosing on LinkedIn. Kissing the ring for all to see. Ops and engineering always seems to be disrespected. I saw tricky Nicky (nicola) was retiring or getting out while the money is good. She was the most clueless leader and could NOT read a room of employees.

Rif'd at my good job at Verizon
Working for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleeping
worrying 'bout the way the things might've been
You know that big wheel keep on turning
Proud Mary keep on burning
And we're rolling, rolling, rolling yeah
Rolling on the river

Be happy you can leave with a package or severance. AT&T employees are being layed off and T is giving nothing to the employee. Two weeks notice and zero money.

It happened to me about a year ago and I couldn't be happier today. So if you were RIF'd recently know that life is about to get so much better for you. You'll find work you love with people you want to be around for more money too. Or maybe you'll find yourself again. The culture of VZ sucks and so do the bootlickers that are promoted to manage it. Hang in there friends.

When employees are happy and relieved they are RIF’d, it validates that VZ is a poorly run company.
Leadership matters.

It happened to me as well and I feel as though the weight of the world has been lifted. I do appreciate the package but won’t miss working for the VZ sh-t show
