With any life changing decision (and uprooting your family to move for a job is sure one of them), you have to have all of the details clearly understood before you commit. If you are told you must move to keep your job, ask for the “process” document. Ask for written guidelines on what the exception criteria is. I see this recent demand to be wrought with opportunity for being implemented unfairly. Some will be offered exceptions while others will get the shaft. That screams “disparity”. Any process like this that they won’t document clearly to give everyone a level playing field is rotten to the core.

“If you refuse to move, you go without any kind of package. So for those of you who are counting on 6 months because you are not mobile, too bad. The corporation has the discretion to mandate where your job will be performed. It is by title and not individual.”
Bingo!!!
I already see peoples jockeying for positions since the announcement came out. I was told no severance will be paid if your position is moving. If you refuse to move, you go without any kind of package. I have a good source in HR and that’s the info they have been given. So for those of you who are counting on 6 months because you are not mobile, too bad. The corporation has the discretion to mandate where your job will be performed. It is by title and not individual. They are pulling out the stops this time. They are he!! bent on getting rid of 50k people within 24 months. They know alot of people won’t relocate especially at their own cost. It’s a train wreck. The people left will be covered up with work. They are not going to backfill. After they know the fallout from this mandate they will reorganize to accommodate the work. What you are doing today will likely change based on who all is left. Everyone hold onto something. This is going to be a mess.
I was in a conference a few days ago, and our VP stated the company will downsizing an additional 50K+ employees by the end of 2024. The company is trying to "Right size" the employee base to betwen 100k-110k. That being said, I would be very careful about uprooting my life and my family's live to continue to work for T, as you might move and then be cut in a year or two.
"No one will be offered an opportunity to move. If you aren’t near a hub, you’re getting a package."
I doubt this is true they will keep the people working remote that meet the needs of the business. lol
no way they will let go of the people that have never stepped a foot in an att building there whole employment career.
yep they don't care. they will not put anything in writing.
Religious q and medical accommodations were abused so much during the pandemic.
My group said you pretty much need a medical excuse from a Doctor to remain a telecommuter.
In the words of Allen Iverson,…Package? We talkin about a package?
Guessing I it won’t be a package as robust as the FIVE, FIVE AND FIVE! that the CWA boys will be getting.
Good luck with that...please mass distribute it if you get anything.
Keep dreaming, you're not going to get some special accomodations by asking for paperwork.
Let's call this what it is folks, it's a backdoor surplus policy. It plays better in the media...
But there's no guarantees of any kind if you move, you could be laid off the day you settle in your new hub city. HR already knows this, this policy was made with that in mind. That x% of folks won't move and this be severed.
The verbiage “case by case “ and “needs of the business “ will overused.
Don’t count on it.
No one will be offered an opportunity to move. If you aren’t near a hub, you’re getting a package.
