Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

federal WARN notices? where r they???

Where is the required filed notices by state? Execs stating about 350 sites going to 10 (Chicago now a hub site). WARN notice required when site closures or site relo will result in termination or layoff. T looking at 15k job losses triggered by exactly that. Contact Dept. of Labor and ask what the WARN filings are on all of this, by state, by site!

There is nothing in the management severance package about distance as it relates to a job loss. Based on past experience if someone is surplused and offered another position X miles from their current location they will qualify for severance if they do not take the offer.

WRONG!! If the job is moved over 50 miles the old job has been eliminated and if the person chooses not to move to the new job that has been created, they get the severance package for surplus employees

They will jimmy up the relocation numbers as needed in order to avoid any WARN listings. It will come in waves.

It isn't going to be 15K leaving kicking and screaming.

must be nice to have your head in the sand like this.
I'm guessing you're an exec living in Dallas or Atlanta

which townhalls have you watched that left you with this impression?
which email specifically?

I could see how the email from stankey and legg is vague enough.
but the townhalls have been quite clear.

That 15K will be in part, normal attrition. Maybe some people who might otherwise have left will hang around to see what deals are available on exit.

It isn't going to be 15K leaving kicking and screaming.

Regarding a prior comment on this thread:

Every thread on the RTO suggests everyone is being relocated. You folks are panicking, I know first hand that is not happening. AGREE

As has been stated multiple times, some roles will be consolidated to one or more hub cities. AGREE

Customer facing / field jobs (where you have a need to touch a device or piece of equipment) are not being relocated. AGREE (assuming you definitely need to touch that device and you can't manage it remotely and have 1 person onsite touch all of the devices instead of 5 people, which we all know is what T wants)

There was no mention of closing anything that would trigger a loss of job. Again it is about roles being moved. AGREE PARTIALLY. A mandatory move to where you never intend to live/work and won't do so, seems to be ready to result in a job loss very soon at this firm. So yes indeed, job losses as a result of this WILL occur. Thousands. Don't dance around the lingo here. Where do you think Stinky pulled the 15K lower headcount year end 2023 numbers from? La la land?

Yeah we know. It's affecting management employees.

I tend to agree with you. Everything I have read aligns with what you said.

Yes Chicago is now an approved hub and many will be transferred there.

The company figures if the employee decides to relocate instead of quitting, they'll likely become mu---r victims in Chicago which will result in the headcount reduction.

Call in the cavalry. Federal dept. Of labor. If warn stuff is indeed the law on these actions. Sounds plausible. But you can bet the corp lawyers crawled all over this already. No harm in asking dol.

I had heard ‘they’ were fighting hard to get Chicago listed as a Hub city, but I didn’t know it get approved. I guess we shall soon find out.

Susan Johnson supply chain town hall today. She directly and clearly said chicago is approved now. Maybe only for her org. Search for the replay on wtsc intranet. Chaos supreme.
