Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

WFH caused RIF’s

The company saw how highly paid WFH was a waste of money because if the job can be done from home then it can also be done from India for 1/10 the cost .

The people that refused to come back to the office caused the RIF’s!

I have had a few reps from the Philippines tell me that they live on a compound and are bussed in to stay for 2-3 weeks at a time then go back home for a week while new workers are bussed in.

Old boomers and jealous union dregs forced into their holes and on their poles clinging to the obsolete office.

I don’t understand why the thought is having US agents WFH means that role can be outsourced. It’s not the location, it’s the performance of the role itself. If the outsourced agent is clueless to Business rules, or cannot speak English, the role is not being performed adequately. Yes they may be paid a fraction of the US agent, but what is being produced is losing Verizon customers in droves.

Although VZ may technically pay an outsourced/India employee 50% less (~50K), don't forget all the kickbacks/payments to the Gov of India, Infy and the family of the VZ India Exec who took away a US job and gave it to their fellow countryman in India. Probably well over 150K at that point.

Also, a lot of the VZ data is restricted to onshore only. So VZ has to pay to bring those workers onshore or pay to "scrub/mask" the data to be worked on offshore.

WFH actually saw productivity increase across the board. RTO/ hybrid is nothing more than wannabe VZ following Google & Meta. Doesn’t matter where you claim an office, VZ will cut either.

Wait until Q2 and Q3 Earnings, when companies are not making a profit. There will be more RIFs. At this point, whether you go to the office or not, makes little difference due to the upcoming recession (due to inflation). Perhaps, if the original poster made the comment before covid days, then perhaps it would have some weight, but at this point, not sure if WFH or Not makes much of a difference to RIFs due to the state of the USA (and world) economy, and global world division.

Artificial Intelligence will take over many jobs sooner then you think. If you think it's bad now, just wait. Ask your grandparents what happened during the 1970s and 1980s when computers took over their jobs.

You are 100% right. Why pay someone $100k a year when you can outsource for $50k a year. Show your true colors and RTO, make this company great again.

Except WFH started in 2015 way before the pandemic. Since there was already a thriving WFH model COVID made it easy to transition everyone and all wireless customer care centers were closed in June 2020. That's when morale, work ethic, etc started to go downhill because many people actually preferred to work from an office. The option to return was never provided so this isn't on the employees.

Never given an option to return. So you might want to check your facts first

No sweetie, work is not a place- it's something you do. And it has to be done well.
It will be seen what happens when its shipped offshore and scripted. Was done many years ago for wireline and believe me, customers hated it. They will not like this either.
