Sure, the laptops from home (doing laundry, taking the kids to school, extra long lunch) are about to come to an end. The Union Dregs that install and repair service, rain or shine, the connections that cause our customers to send us money each month. You are Fhucking kidding yourself. Surely there is no way possible that these "laptops" could not sent over to the good folks in Bangalore. They will do the Needful. You need a reality check.
I was told decades ago in an AT&T training class that the 5ESS would have banana oil squirt out of a defective pack so a Monkey could come replace it. Guess what, The Union Dregs are the remaining Monkeys and you are being replaced by Satesh in India.

The laptop crowd created the network you work on. After creating it, they make sure it has money to be built, permits approved, palms greased in governments so it can be built, then there’s the retail side of the house that sold it to the customers, people to manage those customers and help them when there are issues, then there’s the people that make sure the money is collected, paychecks paid, etc.. then there’s the field guys that make sure it stays running and connects the customers. It’s a big machine buddy and all parts play a part.

Still waiting for my offer to leave earlier than planned! If they really want to get rid of people, they should start with the technicians that are willing to go because I know there are a lot that want out at this time, but the company just doesn't want to pay the severance!
dont care. too many internet providers now is tye SE that pay and benefits are comparable and theyre having trouble finding skilled people.

I heard that this union agreement with the company not laying off until 2024 is just a rumor or it doesn't cover all technical job titles of the union.

Here in the SE , we’re not that concerned with layoffs but we know the company will do their best to try and cut our benefits when the contract is up in 2024. Even though we kept working at customer sites throughout the entire pandemic when everyone else was home playing video games and watching tv , we know the company is not grateful and will demand we accept cuts.
Cuts are focused on management in 2023. Union cuts are set for 2024, mainly due to agreements to avoid reductions in the last negotiation round.
