Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No Guarantee for Severance

It was explained today if for CS, if too many reps choose severance pay that it wouldn’t be the option chosen and reps will then, have to stay despite choosing severance as our first option. This is explained during the Lunch and Learn. How insane is that! I hate working for Verizon.

It is true! Severance isn’t guaranteed! Tenure and high performers are looked at first. Just like bidding on your schedule. So for those who are ready to leave be prepared to stay.

And you obviously need better listening skills as what you just stated was seriously misleading and wrong.

Just because you decide to choose severance as your 1st choice DOES NOT MEAN you will be separated on the first round of layoffs on August 26th. It may be October 28 or December 30th.

They will retain your services based upon "business" needs. Just don't let your a-s be fires before your separation date comes. THEN. You won't see a dime.

Someone was obviously not paying attention during the Lunch and Learn meeting

Why is Verizon closing customer care centers and offshoring when T-Mobile is opening customer care centers and onshoring its customer care?

Whenever a company indiscriminately lays off, People always say 'why not look for volunteers first?'. The downside of that more people can volunteer than their target number. You can't have it both ways. You might argue that VZ should always take everyone that volunteers, but they need some left to run the business.

The same thing happened with the VSP several years back, too many people opted for the package so some were denied. I sat next to someone to whom this happened. They ended up applying to several companies, but ultimately stayed with VZ.

You will need to review this scenario with outside legal counsel. If the positions are being RIF'd then the same package is normally provided.

Guys come on. No way this happens. Why go through the charade of pretending we have a choice just to fire whoever they want anyway?

It would have been cheaper, easier to keep quiet and less of a hassle to just invite the people who they don’t want to a meeting or series of meetings over time and just tell us we’re done. There’s no way this company is wasting that kind of time, effort, and energy. I know they’re inept and kind of stupid but that takes the cake.

Same as the big VSP package, not everyone will get it.

If enough of the folks leaving w/o severance take legal action against Vz for age discrimination, etc. Odds are severance will be reinstated. Sue sue sue!!!!
