Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Be prepared as RIF's will be continuing for the next 2 years frequently

No, this is not a fear mongering post. This is a real post. I have seen the sheets and there are so many planned outsourcing and offshoring initiatives over the next year and a half it is ridiculous. GNT and Finance are being sliced up on so many levels. Good luck people. I only hope I can line up a new job and get a severance at the same time.

@qcw+1mSZbRkp .... not entirely true. My supervisor was told at the beginning of March that he needed to provide 1 name for the RIF coming in May. Luckily, he knew that one of our coworkers would be moving and taking another job in May and was able to use his name.

Many companies are dealing with the same issues... how do you save money? You cut payroll. Unfortunately, VZ made a decision regarding our network that wasn't the right one.... at least not now. Our network is terrible. Our CEO is a joke. The nerve of him giving a commencement speech, posting about his weekend at the Indy 500, reposting his alligator tears regarding George Floyd, on the day many V Teamers found out their careers were done at VZ... he is cr-p and he needs to go. Our stock price is sh-t. How long will VZ keep paying the dividend? Once that's gone, you have nothing left. It's unfortunate to see the demise of this company. However, open your eyes, the leadership isn't authentic and polished... it's trash.

New postings to support the 6 new markets.

In 3 years we'll be hearing about how centralizing and eliminating duplication is the way to go.

Don’t worry about RIFs there were a record number of job postings made through the new system.

VZ’s Swedish meatball ceo is a patsy for the India takeover. No major US corporation would choose a foreign CEO who was fired from his previous CEO position. What percentage of employees RIFd last week were from India? 0%? What percentage were American? 109%? What about the RIFs over the past 5years?

@soj+1mSZbRkp lol maybe at a small company the boss or bosses boss picks and chooses, but I can 100% assure you that the names get told to VPs and then trickled down to Directors and so forth. There is no saving or taking someone’s name off the list. The “bobs” have been handling our layoffs for years…It’s always an outside party to prevent favoritism or anyone being impartial, it’s how they keep from being sued. You are pretty naive.
I don’t think anyone is being racist, it’s okay to be angry that you are losing your job to someone in another country. I personally have an extremely difficult time understanding Indians. I’m good with French and Spanish for most part. If Verizon is going to have call centers out of India, I’m out. I already had a he-l of time getting things done in Care due to Verizon’s sh---y systems now I’ll have to deal with a language barrier…no thanks!

RIFs have been here since 2000 right after the “merger”. Being rebadged was the best thing to happen to me, I don’t have to deal with that nonsense any longer and my pay is the same.

This has become a very anti American globalist enterprise despite 90% of all revenues coming from the USA. Hans, Sillyman, and Scampath have been doing their dastardly deeds to this company while hiding behind Veterans. The Board and the C-suite are the greatest threat to this stock and your jobs and quality communications in the USA.

@soj+1mSZbR you are naive if you believe anyone outside of the consulting firms engaged for this purpose and the executives who hired them have any input into which jobs are eliminated and/or outsourced. Those days of your boss having any input are long gone. Most of the time they aren't even aware of it until just before the notifications. Very few RIFs anymore are performance based.

All good points. But let’s not forget there is still a lot of departmental overlap. In VGS we have a construction group in Boston/another in Basking Ridge and yet another on the VGS ops side. All doing the same thing. All with their own Directors. Sooner or later the powers that be won’t be able to sustain the overlap . It just makes good business Sense to consolidate and reduce headcount. Same in Finance.. lots of overlap. Will sit and. Watch as Big Red becomes more lean and efficient.

I don't consider these scalpel level reductions. These are concerted efforts to move functions that were historically US based to new or existing offshore locations. I think there has been a expectation that certain skillsets are the best candidates for the offshore model (coding, engineers, cust service) but that is turning on it's head - it's no longer about skills but about cheaper bodies in other locations fulfilling any and all job functions in Verizon.

Is this really news? Verizon has cut thousands of people off it's payroll every year for a decade. It's what they do. It's at least twice a year, every year.

@abz - Such racism on this board - pretty pathetic. It's always the bosses (or the boss's boss) that make the final decision, no one else.

And Yes, expect scalpel level reductions based on duplicate functions, off-shoring and out sourcing. Those of us in IT have been through that for the last 15+ years - other areas are seeing it now.

Unless there is another VSP (could come with the next CEO), expect reductions, which means it's UP TO YOU on how to best be prepared.

Mucho backroom discussion about HRBP mostly being replaced with workday services. We just moved over to their software and now suddenly we need to send them all our training and process docs. Rebadging with no bridging of service tenure so no severance. Wait until someone from India decides who gets the next rif or has to help you with questions about health coverage for your ED.
