Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Fraud Contractor Hiring - Husband and Wife

A manager has hired 2 of his distant relatives (Husband and Wife) as contractors to work on same project. They are from same vendor, they never show up at office and being paid the highest top dollar. No one seems to know what they are working on. There are several instances of contractor fraud at BNYM where manager increases project work estimates and hire friends & family and make money. People who have reported such instances were the one to get trouble.

Good to see senior management, HR, and Compliance and Ethics are all on the ball.

@wmy

You are so wrong. You’ve obviously never raised an ethical issue in this bank. There is quite a lot of retaliation. Most people end up leaving because of it.

Make sure you gather all the evidence before you report it to stand up strongly on what you believe, have all the data ready. The bureaucracy is deep-rooted in the organization not even Chainsaw Charlie could stop it . Listen to the goofs at times and remember what happened to Judas in the Bible who promoted Nepotism.

It's not fraud, it's called nepotism and it happens all the time. Everywhere and since the biblical times

You can report it anonymously. Don’t listen to the goofs in this thread

@OP

I suggest that you quietly conduct your own investigation.

@OP, what makes you think you're supposed to know what they're working on?

Report this immediately to the ethics office, the whistleblowing hotline or the global chief compliance officer.

Report it anonymously. Call that number that’s manned by an external provider. Block your number before calling just in case, though the reputation of these external firms would be at risk if they were in that practice.

Never go on record with a complaint at bnym, because they never protect your identity or protect you from retaliation.

Probably true at most companies, sadly

I'm surprised this happened. We have so many controls in place to prevent this.

An anonymous call or note to the Ethics Office could be a start.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say. May you never encounter an ethical issue that you feel obligated to report.

@wmy

Obviously you have never filed a Code RAP. There is PLENTY of blow back unless you back off. No, you can’t lose your job over it but you’ll be leaving as fast as you can.

@wmy I have been a whistle blower myself and my experience has not been good so far, because I was not on the Cool friends Club. Prepare to be insulted if you are a whistle-blower and the manipulation tactics and brainwashing that takes place to bring you down is at a whole new level, everyone in your hierarchy would portray you as a Bad Guy not them. They will go to any ends to prove you wrong, no one to back you or support you as a Better advocate.

BS, @gxi. There are plenty of things to criticize BK on but retaliation for reporting fraud is not one of them.

Don't shoot the Messenger ! There is a culture where the messenger is shot first. Be prepared to be mistreated if you are a Whistle blower. You won't be rewarded for it.

You have to copy and paste the entire link above. Don’t know how to embed links here… sorry.

it is likely that no immediate action is taken but the more employees raise it, the higher the chances that you wake someone up

If only there were systems in place and mandated training at the bank to report suspicious and illegal activity.
