Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

VSP WINNER

Even after more than two decades and taking the VSP (Voluntary Separation Program), I still find myself visiting this site every month. I remember the initial few months after accepting the VSP, when I faced a pay cut and heard all the news about how amazing things were at Verizon. At that time, I questioned whether I had made a mistake. However, as the years went by and I transitioned to different companies, I found my footing and achieved happiness and contentment. It pains me to witness the struggles of those who chose to stay. I want to offer some reassurance: there is indeed life after Verizon, and your experiences there have equipped you well to thrive in new ventures.

You’re one of those 2003 loads that took the vsp halfway through the year and still got a full year’s bonus, you stole from the people who did your work, but that’s the kind of managers we have that drove this thing into the ground

What gets me is with so-called "rifs" that happened in my team over the years , year before last and again earlier this year they added additional headcounts. And then in end of 2021 and last week there were rifs. It looks management want to get rid of people and get there friends here. Had a Managr from Motorola who was hired because Director knew him. Then just started blowing off Verizon guys in team meetings etc and kept hiring his own friends from Motorola. Got a negative feedback on pulse survey and was moved to a different team. A new Director from MN had come in mean time and talked $hit about the Vz veterans specially who he disliked and the new Director PC was out to get these guys.

You are so right. I was a V-Teamer for 28 years. High performer. Helped build the brand before the brand even existed. "Survived" at least five rounds of the Verizon Squid Game (only started happening after Hans came aboard). Turned down the 60-week VSP in 2018. Got promoted again twice after that and it was finally my turn last September. I was devastated. Earlier today, I received an offer from a direct competitor with substantially similar pay, and FAR better benefits (SIGNIFICANTLY less for healthcare, free internet, free cable and unlimited cell service on the VZ network for $15 per line...far less than what I pay as a Verizon 'retiree'). My advice (even after being forced out at 58): TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!!!!!!! GET OUT NOW!!! Verizon DOES NOT DESERVE YOU!

There IS life after Verizon. The old Verizon my generation built is gone forever, replaced by a foreign outsourcing platform. It will never return. What happened to me last fall was indeed a blessing. Those of you impacted in this and future rounds, take heart. You will find a better home. You will!
