It's interesting to see that 7 people gave it a PLUS and 12 people gave this topic a MINUS...

So, there is a good chunk of us who think there is some discrimination here...

This should be addressed...

Seriously? This is your rant about this cesspool? That parents somehow get preferential treatment?

Get over it.

Oh, and if you ever do have kids, come back and read your ignorant complaint. You'll get a good laugh at yourself.

"occasional misstep"

ROTFLMAO

Try again.

Although there is the occasional misstep, Wells always tries to do what's best, no matter what.

Now that we've had this discussion, let's all move on to other things.

You probably already know this, but you need to get some help. Anyone who can be so ugly to others has something going on that isn’t right. Please get yourself some help.

I do get resentful towards the (entitled) people who ALWAYS have some excuse to come in late or leave early, children or not. It’s usually the exempt employees who aren't filling out timesheets and don’t want to take a PTO day like the rest of us do. We all have difficult busy lives, but responsible mature adults figure out back- up/alternative plans.

Having said that - Charlie & Co have created such a toxic work atmosphere, that in some ways I don’t blame employees for not caring anymore.

I paid my dues when my kids were younger

I was child free for 20 years and never once did I feel I was asked to cover for anyone with a child or taken advantage of specifically because I didn’t have a child (I’ve worked here for a long time). I did feel there were unspoken expectations that everyone who was salaried was available at all times, regardless of parental status. I have had a child now for 6 years and never have had a situation where I wasn’t able to get my work done or asked anyone without a child to cover for me.

As others have posted, this company devalues every human being equally. No special treatment based on family status.

@1ryk Do you purposefully avoid patronizing all public roads, the police, and fire departments?

Didn't think so.

I don't have a problem with helping out coworkers in this way. What I resent is them demanding my money (aka property tax funded education etc.). Not my responsibility, any more than food, clothes, or anything else a kid needs to live. Don't want to pay to care for your own child? Don't have them. It's that simple.

@1iiq I know the feeling. I've been exempt for a decade and now a coworker who I considered a friend is regularly taking the day off during the weeks it's my duty to cover it. They are engaging in other subtle FU behaviors, as well. It got significantly worse after they had a health scare that caused them to reevaluate how hard they want to work.

: @1rnm+1mWZwGRD If OT were involved people might feel differently, sometimes. Most of us do not get OT. It’s not a factor.

And the truth is most people have no problem helping out a coworker in a bind. It’s when a bind becomes a lifestyle that resentments arise.

@jfm here again, I've been the single person who milked the OT that was offered when I had to cover for people with kids and I honestly don't get the hate here. I loved it both financially and for the reputation that it helped me build.

Now I'm the single male parent of multiple kids who has to carefully manage PTO for them because other people on my team - young single professionals, old seasoned professionals, married parents - have real lives as well.

Do I begrudge them for having to do what they have to do? No.

Do I wish I could land a different job where the hours weren't what they currently are? He-l yes, but that isn't their fault.

Yes, but that’s not unique to WF. Child-free people everywhere are expected to work the holidays, late nights, and weekends while the parents slack off.

LOL. Sounds like I struck a nerve. Have fun with your cat and your Lexapro and box wine this weekend.

I guess the people without medical issues are discriminated against as well. one can always find a narrative that gives them a reason to complain. get over yourself.

This is not unique to WF. Throughout my 20s and early 30s (at other companies) I spent so much of my time covering maternity leaves and when they were out due to something with their child. I was single and dependable. Did I care at the time - yes, it made me mad. Then I had kids, someone did it for me. Though I was sensitive to it and made sure the time off was minimal.

People who choose not to have kids are weird anti-social and are probably on SSRIs.

They should absolutely be forced to pick up slack for the people who are building the future society with children.

absolutely there is discrimination against people who do not have children. there have been numerous times I have been asked to fill in or stay late etc. because someone with kids had an issue with something. Had to push back because I would not be taken advantage of. I am sick of the entitlement some people think they have. get a babysitter or find other options.

They try. You have to push back.

Parent: Stay late and finish my task. I was on the phone all day with my kid. Now I have leave early to go to their soccer game.
Me: No. I have plans.
Parent: Don’t you think you’re being selfish?
Me: I’m not the one asking for special treatment.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

If you are a childfree woman you WILL be expected to cover for the breeders. You WILL be called selfish if you don’t jump to make sacrifices for other people’s families.

You just have to let it roll off you. You didn’t get them pregnant.

It's usually another female expected to cover for another f with kids. Most men have wives (or an ex) that covers child duties, if married or divorced. So it's usually women that get pulled in to cover for other women with kids. That in itself is discriminatory. Add to that, all the hen pecking that goes on from the experienced ones to the less experienced. It's ok to help out, but combined with the current climate of stack ranking and people aggressively protecting their jobs, it usually ends up being counter productive for the person helping out.

How would they actually know someone doesn’t have kids?

by

Post ID: @dtv+1mWZwGRD

Yes. Had to cover for various things and ALWAYS got taken advantage of & su---r punched afterwards as they wanted to push me down after I helped them lest I be deemed a good fit for their job (not that I wanted it). They just had to cover their bases. No good deed goes unpunished. There was scant praise & always an edge with veiled criticism.
