Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T needs someone from outside the bell system

Once again, the upper management is still stuck in the old baby bell mentality when they were the only players in town and ran the business as a monopoly. They are from the SBC environment! Since the breakup in 1984, T has been stuck in that management mindset and just can't figure it out. They keep throwing things against the wall to see what will stick in order to generate revenue, but in the long run, every undertaking T gets involved in ultimately ends up in failure! T needs someone from outside the bell system to step in with clarity of business mind and to clean up management. Someone needs to come in and "Drain the swamp!"

@1ghe+1mwm6nIb said it perfectly.

Yeah, we need somebody like John Donovan from Deloitte. Such a management genius, he doubled the stock price and my salary tripled!

Domain 2.0 is working so well now that I'm ready for Domain 10.0!

"T needs someone from outside the bell system"

I've been saying that for a long time on the way they operated their datacenters. They operated them inefficiently and pricing for cloud service was non-competitive to the AWS, Microsoft, etc... But that door already been closed and their datacenters days are numbers. It's always seemed like they thought people would pay any price for their brand and neglected the thought that business operate on profitability like their selves.

The upper management today is really from the different Bell entities. Someone that understands customer service with a software and telco background would be a good fit. Maybe John Legere would be open to work. He understood how to make a company great.

How about if they would just LISTEN to their employees! We see and hear everyday the good the bad and the evil! But yet NO one will push it backup the ladder and show them what went wrong!

I guess the veterans reference was to long time telecom experience, not vets. I'm not a vet and thankful for all their sacrifices.

Al-tho Lee Iacocca did have car experience when he moved from Ford to Chrysler; but he worked for free until the Chrysler was profitable. A better incentive than more stock to C-suite.

all this complaining but you need to clean up your mess of a life.

I'm the OP and my life is great, well organized and thriving financially and my job is not impacted by this RTO since I'm in the field face to face with customers and I'm ready to retire. I just feel for my fellow employees that I've come to know and respect over the years that are non-union. I know they're being screwed over by the company and see the injustice! My job with T has been great for as long as I have worked for this company. It's just a terrible case of mismanagement that employees are forced with a life altering decision. I hope you all report to your assigned locations and force the company to change course due to lack of housing for everyone. We're all in this together, we're one very large mismanaged company facing extinction!

Partially agree, it is really the "good 'ol boys" promoting each other that is the bigger problem.
I have seen areas in AT&T where they brought in from outside the Bell System, such as in Public Sector, the most recent VP finally got sacked after 10 years.
Nothing against Veterans but get promoted because of who they know, not what they know. They rise to their level of incompetence and it hurts the company. Everybody around them become 'Yes' men and it becomes a cluster fu-k.
