Cisco Raises?

Why would anyone want to work for a company that doesn't give yearly raises? What's the longest you've gone without a raise?

I got 4% after 2 years of being 250% of target quarter over quarter. I did work on average an hour or 2 a day though so can't complain too much.

I created a system that saved Cisco 5-8M annually. What did I have to show for it?

  • my salary actually went down by 3% over four years, adjusted for inflation.
  • I was moved up a single grade
  • My VP claims the system as his accomplishment on his LinkedIn profile though he has almost no contribution other than allowing me to build it

There are definitely worse places to work, but in balance, Cisco is a mediocre experience for motivated individuals. I left as soon as I realized that they reward excellence.

The first response was tongue-in-cheek but it is still completely true. I never used to sweat getting raises because my philosophy is that I'm getting paid to be a lazy b-m. Even if I go years without a raise I'm still living WAY below my means and stacking paper as high as I can.

For years I thought I was in a situation like Milton, where the company had fired me years ago but I was still getting paid due to a glitch in the system. Hey, who am I to turn down free money?

I don’t know if it’s just my org, but it might be nice to actually get some kind of performance review (assuming it’s fair to begin with). Because to be honest, I get so little feedback it’s infuriating.

I like how you can go years without talking about annual performance reviews, then suddenly it's the hot topic and MUST be completed before the end of the month. Really? Why this year and not the past 5?

I didn't receive any raise or RSU when I reported to an Indian manager because I am not from the area.

I’ve definitely had a year without a raise (I think during Covid). But the whole process lacks so much transparency. Employees deserve a much clearer picture of their compensation without the move-your-bonus-to-base-pay bs.
