Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Time to go

You could say I lost my faith in science & progress
You could say I lost my confidence in the executive team
You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this & worse, but
If I ever lose my faith in 5G
There’d be nothing left for me to do

To most people, the difference between LTE and 5G is like the difference between Window 10 and 11. Who gived AF.

The issue is that general roles can be outsourced. That doesn't mean non-technical, but rather, they don't require specific knowledge of the business, organization or function. For example, data scientists are performing the analysis. They don't know what's important. Developers are another example. The more you split up development into different people, the less the actual developer needs to know about the content. Value grooming vs dev. It used to be the developers worked directly for the business owner or, minimally, were dedicated resources. Efficiency is the enemy of effectiveness and accuracy. Vz will lose because they quite literally don't care about the people. They'll outsource the people buying fios. They'll lose specialized people as they try to reshuffle orgs. They'll demoralize those that will stay. Who will be left to care about the product and, by extension, the customer? NO ONE CARES. That is the issue. I CARE. I CARE AND AM WILLING TO RISK MY JOB ADVOCATING FOR WHAT IS RIGHT EVERY DAY. When WE are gone, vz is toast. Complacency will take over and even the working level will begin making bad decisions out of disengagement or laziness.

Yeah I got a little too specialized myself and pigeonholed myself (kinda got pigeonholed I feel) into a role that just is the end of my career. For any other job I’m entry level or less which means I’m trapped here.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's that simple. Sure, if you're willing to be a nomad, you can move for a job. That said, you're almost guaranteed a massive raise if you switch companies.

Also, while having a specialized role makes you more marketable, by definition, a specialized role has less people and therefore less job openings.

If you have a generic role (ie. always lots of openings), you should play the field and bounce around to a company you like.

They will find that 5G causes cancer and other health issues and it will fail.
