Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Jobs no bueno but $165k/yr ain't too shabby

I add very little value to the organization, but (apparently) lots of value to my boss. I really serve no customers, but handle a lot of emails for my boss. My biggest value seems to be the fact that my boss looks to me as one of the few on his team that can help take care of things, dig into messes and make some sense of them, and cover his ar-e. I also mostly agree with him and I think he enjoys me making him think he's smart. I don't sell anything, I don't talk to customers, I don't work in Tech.I really don't bring much value to anything significant on a daily basis, I merely exist because my boss needs me to. It's a b*tch of a job, but I can't imagine anywhere else that would pay me $80/hr to do this.

I agree with the original poster. My job is basically broken up to two parts each month. One part is super slow and I have to FIND things to keep myself busy and the other part is super fast paced. I've tried to spread it out over the entire month to make it more even keel. But no go. It's not a hard job at all. I've done this type of thing for a very long time so it's second nature. Not taxing in the least. I also schmooze my boss and she thinks i'm wonderful. I'm almost ready to retire and this is my last job. I'm not looking to climb the corporate ladder any longer. Been there done that...have a few t-shirts to prove it. ha ha. The bonuses on my team are fan-flippin-tastic and the salary is amazing. I've never made this much in my life. Not making the $80/hour like the poster - but $77/hour isn't bad at all and a 19% bonus usually to boot. Not really a fan of the company...but for the next few years I'll continue to do what i'm told, schmooze and do the best job i can ...
I saw on one of the messages earlier today that Wells is a great place to end your career but not so great for moving up the ladder. I have to agree. The management is horriffic...if you can get into a team / lob that pays well...it is a nice place to sit and contemplate retirement...haha

The entire room is reading @1zve+1mcNQkY2's comment and hearing that Connor McGregor voice in their head "who the fook is this guy?"

There are a lot of OP’s in this bank. Nepotism and favoritism are not rare. (I personally witnessed). The nepotism employee is gone because his father also left. The favoritism employee also left because her favorite big boss was demoted during the last re-org. Purging is good for the company and morale.

I don't make $160k, but over six figures for a similar role (although I'm essentially the work director for my team as well).

People mock me for working at WF but they have no idea that with my typical bonus I clear $110k-115k a year. I'll take it!

OP speaks the truth. I make $10k less but my day to day mirrors what was written; I'm in one of the many, many, redundant Control organizations.

Wells pays a pretty hefty salary to many folks who do absolutely nothing all day. If Wells is willing to pay for doing nothing then I'll cash the check all day everyday and twice on Sunday.
