Useless people trying to justify their jobs

It is difficult to explain what is wrong with the current time reporting system, so it is necessary to spend money on ORCA. For people who work hard, it can only be a frustration, but for those who do almost nothing, it is ideal because it will help them justify their work.
The irony is that while the company tries to get rid of unproductive employees by spending a lot of money, it actually achieves exactly the opposite and becomes a company where everything revolves around useless people justifying their positions.

it's a ponzi scheme to get everyone under you to do the work, then stack rank them and cut the lowest every year or so

It's not up to the technician to look for work, the company usually provides it on a daily basis. If there's no work to do, then the techs just don't have any productive time. Lately, there's been an awful lot of down time with little or no work. It doesn't matter which time reporting tool ATT management decides to use, it's all the same cluster at the end of the day. Not enough work and too many techs!

Those “ringers” were easily identified without wasting millions of dollars for a new program and the support it will take (aka.. job justifying staff). The mangers just didn’t do their job of documentation, coaching, training and discipline. It takes some effort on their part but I’ve seen it done many times by those who tried. Some techs corrected their aauctions and some were fired.

Since the first line managers didn’t do their job it created an opportunity for the power point warriors. They were able to convince upper management how much more productive and efficient techs would be using this micromanagement program. It would pay for itself by reducing headcount but it only works if you are measuring based on repetitive known actions. Like factory work, assembly lines, delivery, etc.. A skilled technical job has too many variables to be measured consistently, so orca is the wrong application and a big waste of money but that won’t stop them from trying anyways.

Isn’t it about time for the rollout of a new employee performance program?

You are all being scapegoated for the financial mess leadership put this company in. Now they need to do a lot more with less.

Next contract negotiations will be brutal, too bad the union is spending our money on woke agendas

ORCA was adopted to identify the ringers. Prior to ORCA the company had no way to separate the wheat from the chaffe. If you are a good worker just play along, use ORCA to your advantage. Every workgroup has a few ringers they would like to see gone.
