Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

4/18 layoffs - based on age?

Hearing that a decent number of 4/18 firings were age related? the oldest ones in the team were let go in a majority of the situations. can anyone else confirm?

Is there a lawsuit coming soon?

They can use all the legal jargon and BS that they want. Age and tenure was a huge determining factor. Get rid of all the old dogs who were higher paid then the newbies who know nothing. Who cares how much experience they have or how loyal they were! They have lots of PTO even though they slaved for years to get to this point. Wells Fargo does not want anyone over 50. We know too much. Will happily join any lawsuit against this place.

I'd love to know about "and the factors used in making the selection decisions".

I was among those laid off on 4/18. They send you 11 documents and document #1 is the notice you're being laid off with the 2nd page of the document being "legal proof" that it wasn't age discrimination. So even if it was, they have a legal way of saying it wasn't. Here is the wording from my letter:

In accordance with the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act, this report identifies, by job title and age, employees in the impacted organizational unit who were selected for displacement, employees who were not selected for displacement, and the factors used in making the selection decisions. Unless otherwise noted, the identified selected employees who meet the eligibility requirements are eligible for the Wells Fargo & Company Severance Plan.

No lawsuit needed. Most people were over 50 any way.

Just like H1 visas, you know there is simply no high-skill shortage - but you will never survive long enough to prove it.

They’re always pretty careful to throw a couple of younger people into the mix so as to make it less obvious.

Yes!!!! The 3/7 layoff was the same. Heard from co workers that not only is the media interested in the 25 plus year employees being laid off but age discrimination is a huge factor. The media wants to run a story. Attorneys are interested in taking on a class action lawsuit. So it will happen.

On our team, all of the people under 40 were laid off. There are special laws for layoffs impacting folks over 40, and there was a disclosure to this effect in our displacement packet. (The disclosure shows the age of everyone laid off and the ages of people who remained.)
